Try to stay calm. I know it's hard. How old is he? Look at him closely. Do you feel any indentations or swelling on the head? Is it just his nose that's bleeding? Did you see what part of his body actually hit the tile? How far was the drop?

Hang in there & we'll get you through this.... :grouphug

EDIT: I just left a voicemail for Squirrelsrule&Bunniestoo who is located about an hour or so from you & is licensed in Ohio.

I think he is like 3-4 weeks old. I dont feel any indentations or bumps...he is moving his arms and legs...its his nose. His arm looks a little bruised..just a little red mark on it. His nose is not bleeding a whole lot, but I am wiping it. He keeps sneezing (it sounds like). Now he is just laying around in his bed. I think he fell on his side...I'm not sure. I was sitting at the table...so like 2-ish feet he fell.

Until one of the rehabbers get on here (and I've pm'd / texted a few), try to just keep him warm & calm. I'm taking a shot in the dark here (not a rehabber) and guessing that he may have bonked his nose pretty good, so keep wiping. Don't want that to clot up & clog his nose. Deep breath....you're both gonna get through this. :grouphug

I know you you do, but try not to beat yourself up too much. These little ones do some serious wiggling....it only gets worse as they get bigger. Find a way to get a really good grip on him so that this doesn't occur again. Sometimes wrapping them in fleece or tshirt works well. When they are that little, I worry about squishing them, so I wrap them up. :grouphug

If it makes you feel any better, keep in mind that the majority of us on this board got our babies because they fell out of TREES and it seems to me that these babies are incredibly resilient. So try not to get too upset.

Babies fall, they jump and miss, all sorts of things happen to babies. Is the nose the only sign of trauma? Did he hit his nose? Another part of his head? How much does he weigh? Babies are light and sometimes with a fall of 2'-ish, they don't get hurt. You need to watch for signs - lethargy, turning in circles, gasping for air, continuous twitching, clicking coming from the nasal passages that doesn't go away, etc. - anything that's not normal.

Most likely, he just has boo-boo nose, but keep a close watch on him for any irregular actions.

Oh, and give him a big hug and big kiss from me! :grouphug :Love_Icon Please keep us posted!!

So sorry you dropped the little tyke. You will want to keep a close eye on it and make sure to keep his airways clear. If you have one of those infant nose suckers, you can use that to gently suck the blood from his nose.

I always feed my babies on carpeting. Do you have any carpeted areas in your house? That would be the best place to feed in case he falls again. I have dropped several on the carpet, they usually squirm or are climbing and clinging and just fall. None have ever gotten hurt. So, that is your best bet.

Hi, just popping in to see how your little one is doing, I'm hoping he is better.

Tomo's on the mark. I have a baby right now that face-planted 50 feet onto concrete and is doing well now (nose was mangled). If he's just sneezing a little blood, it's probably just--well--a bloody nose. If you use the baby bulb, be very careful to do it gently. Sometimes if the nose gets clogged the best thing to do is to moisten a cotton ball or tissue and gently wipe the nose one nostril at a time to soften the blood and remove it. I think you're baby is going to be okay :-) Get a grip, momma (in more ways than one) :D

Hi...oh what a sweet baby..

Another suggestion..if you dont have carpet..put a big fluffy, thick comforter blanket at your feet...so if it ever happens again...accidents do happen..
This way...the blanket will make for a soft landing..:thumbsup

Welcome to the Squirrel Board..:Welcome

Seriously, they can survive a fall like that?

I know the babies I gave Anne, the one I thought had a broken jaw and the seizure baby, plus one that was okay (I gave Anne 3) and I have one from that group that was the last to fall (my little Chloe) all fell over 40 feet from a Sycamore tree and landed on a bunch of tree roots and they have done fine. The one boy did NOT have a broken jaw, the only one that had issues was the little seizure female I sent to Anne. I can only surmise that she had a head injury but none of the others did. If babies can survive THAT, I am pretty sure a baby that only fell a couple of feet onto tile will do just fine.

I do not mean to thread jack, but, then why did my Tommy die? Why, I was there, he was still warm, why couldn’t he live, at least long enough for me to bring him to a rehabber—I suppose this is a rhetorical question.

I am not sure how to answer that. I just know that so many of us here on this board have gotten our babies why? Because they fell out of a tree. Not all of them sustain injuries. However, occasionally, some of them do. I was trying to reassure her that because her baby fell such a short distance that the chances were good that her baby was going to be okay. Bloody nose and all. Look at Jackie's baby in Tampa that also came to her with a bloody nose (JimZ I believe) and he is doing fine. All of us on this board should understand and realize that we CANNOT save every baby, as much as we all would love to. Sometimes nature has other plans for these babies. I understand your hurt and pain over losing your little one. And I am so sorry for your loss. We all try to do our best for these babies and sometimes it seems our best isn't good enough. But actually, a LOT of these babies come to us having sustained a VERY LONG fall, and the majority do very well.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you all. Thank you all for everything. Leo is fine. I freaked out seeing the bloody nose. He is just fine. Eating good, pooping and peeing great, not sleepy, not too crazy, no bumps or anything. His arm just has a small red mark on it, but he must have fallen on it...he is moving it just fine though. I just got so scared seeing the bloody nose. I just kept it clean with a warm damp cloth and its fine...he's not even making strange sounds or sneezing anymore.
My husband told me that I was over reacting...he reminded me that the squirrel fell from a nest waaay higher than the top of our house...we have a 2 story colonial with a huge tree in the front yard...and he was fine....yeah, I know...but still. I have been his "mommy" for over 3 weeks now...up every few hours feeding him and such...I've become pretty attached to him.
I now have a comforter on the floor, where I feed him...since we dont have carpet.
Thanks again for everything. I LOVE this board!
Michele:thumbsup

Glad to hear the little tyke is just fine. Don't worry, it is normal to be overprotective of your little one and to freak out when they get hurt. It is always better to overreact than not to react.
