It has been about 2 and a half days since Cody has had a BM...he's slightly distended but still has a soft belly. He's dragging his little bottom around and when I stimulate him (I have stimulated for as long as 10 mins and he hates every second of it) I can tell he's pushing but I got only one tiny black hard piece out yesterday morning. I soaked him in warm water, massaged his tummy,... I've read a few threads on this but I couldn't find the pumpkin baby food (tried 2 stores). I did just give him his first bit of diluted applejuice...hopefully this does the trick. He gets 3 1/2 mls formula 5x/day. I gave him .75 mls juice with .75 mls water right between his two formula feedings. He weighs 60 grams at 4-5 weeks, pretty underweight.

Just wondering if I should offer this between the feedings...I also got pear juice and the baby food apple/prune mix, is this safe for him to try if the apple juice doesn't produce any results? He appears to have a bit of a tummy ache. I got infant gas drops as well to try.

FYI: We are on day 4 of the Esbilac and I did read that the first few days they may have constipation.

I feel paranoid about every little thing, he's just so fragile...I had nightmares all night last night that I put him in the bed with my husband and I and we kept rolling onto him...he's making me a little nuts I guess...:ohthedrama

Thank you!

What is everyone's stance on the gerber graduates food?

The apple juice worked :jump ...I was starting to worry by this afternoon (we were at 3 and a half days with no BM) but I looked in his cage and saw he finally went. I still could not find the pumpkin baby food. I wonder if I should still give him a few more doses of the apple juice until I know he's going regularly...I don't want to give him diarrhea either. We're putting on some weight as well so he's not looking so puny anymore.

The most obvious physical change I'm noticing at this age (besides his teeth) is his tail...it is literally growing and changing overnight, it's crazy how fast that thing grows.

Well despite not getting any responses to this thread (I'm sure because it's a subject that's totally been discussed to death...I'm sorry about that) I would have never heard about the apple juice advice had it not been for previous threads on constipation here...I found no other sites that made that suggestion. Your advice has not steered me wrong! Thank you!

Awww...I'm so glad to hear of :poop! Yay! :grouphug

An apple slice works good, too. And so does a warm bath, waist deep, and a massage. I'm no expert, but those have worked for me.

Good for you for reading around the site and taking such good care of your squirrel even though no one got back to you. You're good folk. :thumbsup

How about some pics of Cody? :poke

Have you seen the threads on Esbilac and how it's killing babies/ PetAg changed their formula back in March I believe and so far it has killed many babies. Many rehabbers have switched to Fox Valley. I would change to something not made by PetAg immediately. A rehabber I know has lost 30 babies to Esbilac. The formula is too concentrated and even though they eat, they will starve as they can't digest the food. Even if you dilute the formula, it still doesn't work. There's been a lot written on this subject. You will notice that they will not grow as you expect. The rehabber I know, her babies also had serious digestive issues. Please check out the threads on Esbilac here on TSB. Good luck to you.
