We rescued a squirrel last Oct. and raised him well. So well in fact he had been getting rather plump. He seems now to be more worried about stashing food and eating less. He appears to have lost a little weight too.
Is this normal for summer time, that they hide more food than they eat? I thought this would start in the fall before winter. Thanks for any input.

Do you have him on our Healthy Diet for Pet Squirrels? You want to be sure that his loss of weight and inactivity is not due to the beginnings of MBD. If his diet is good, it may just be that he has more food than he needs, that's why he's stashing it away.

My wildies are still eating like little pigs. They stash and bury if there are nuts left after they have satisfied their appetites.

My Bean went through a lean..slimming period as well...I thought there was something wrong with him..ended up...not being anything but him thinning out..
Kind of like when your kids...are all chunky...when they are younger..then as they get older..toward those teen years...they thin out and lose that"baby fat"
Hope thats all yours was going through...
Wait till the..Fanny drags...and marking his territory...come on in....killer funny....
