I am Not a Rehabber, but IMO, NO, I would Not give bird seed to a squirrel for a snack or anything else. Again, it is just my opinion.
Have you checked out the The Squirrel Board > Help Needed! > Squirrel Nutrition (http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=191). Lots of good ideas there.
Additionaly to get more ideas you could go to The Squirrel Board > Help Needed! > Squirrel Nutrition > Healthy Diet for Pet Squirrels (http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16093).
Great ideas might include—arugula, asparagus, bell peppers, broccoli, or even wild foods like acorns—they’re starting to fall this time of year. Just a couple of ideas from a non—professional.
All the best,

I would worry about them choking on the small seeds. I think there are lots of safer and healthier snacks. A small piece of corn or sweet potato or a blueberry a couple of times per week. The healthiest snack is something from outside: a fresh branch, a pine cone or magnolia cone, or a clump of grass including the roots and dirt (no lawn chemicals). These are not only healthy, but they'll entertain themselves chewing them up and playing with them, and they seem to love the "outdoor smell" on natural stuff.
