:Welcome
can you get a pic for the rehabbers?
Heat and hydration, quiet and dark, no children or pets please.
Half the container on a heating pad so he/she can crawl off heat. Hydrate with store bought or homemade pedialyte first. Never feed a cold sq!
Home made
1 quart warm water
1 teaspoon table salt
2 tablespoons sugar
No bottles, we suggest 1cc syringe with nipple if available for feeding.
After hydrated, pup can be feed a diluted esbilac puppy replacer milk. It can be found at most pet stores and feed stores. Tractor Supply also has it as well as many places on line.
Can you give us the age of yyour sq?

A rehabber will not be able to help without a weight or at least a pic.
Hang on someone will be here shortly!
Pnuemonia symptoms are lethargy and clicking with EVERY breath. From the chest, not to be confiused with mouth and nasal noises.
Thanks so much for finding help:bowdown

Thank you for such a quick response! The squirrel is approx. 10-12 days old, and is in a relatively healthy state, despite the clicking that he has been doing since last night. I believe that I must have accidentally gotten some pedialyte up his nose :(
I can get a picture, but it would take some time! Is there any way you can get an idea as to whether or not he can take Cephalexin, and if so, what dosage?
THank you again, SO MUCH!

per Wild Mammel Babies...this is not a respitory AB.
It will not work for pnuemonia, also said is fatal to wood chucks and beavers, said nothing about sqs,.... but it's not the right AB.

NAY to the Cephalexin. You will need to get the baby to a rehabber or vet as soon as possible, at this young of an age it will go downhill fast. Baytril is what I use, I know there is another safe AB but I can't think of what it is off the top of my head. I'll go check my book.

Okay- Sorry it took so long! i was having technical difficulties and ended up having to use my phone. I attached two photos to this...not sure how it works, but i hope it does! So the baby is three inches long, excluding his tail, and he does click with every breath. hope that gives you enough information! thank you again!

OMG, that baby is really young and will be hard to dose correctly. You will really need a vet or rehabber to save this poor sweet baby.

We have several rehabbers close to the Jacksonville area. Jackie will know which one to get in touch with.

FYI -- This is near Digiandchipper, who may be able to help coordinate transportation with Anne, if needed.
schulze, you have done a wonderful thing rescuing this baby :bowdown , but they are very hard to care for so young and once there is a problem, they can go downhill exceedingly quickly if they are not in experienced hands, with the right meds.

I wouldn't have come up with this right answer if it were not for all of you!

I do not know of a male rehabber around Jax.
Please tell him about us and invite him to join the board.
There are times that we could use some more help.
We would like to get to know him.

please be careful with who you give your pinkie to, we know of a man in Jax that claims to be a rehabber and is POOR character...lack of skilll and patience, has injured sqs that are non releasable and have since been adopted by members here!
I am not starting trouble, just giving fair warning, be very careful!
I would go wiyth a known licensed rehabber or sub permittee that has credentials, like Anne and Philo, which I have met both and know to trust...peace baby!:grouphug

Hi Guys :)
I just wanted to let you know that sulfatrim is also safe to use with sqs and batryil as was said.
Good luck! I hope these babies are doing well :grouphug
Guess that explains why I haven't heard anything. As far as I know, I am the only licensed rehabber in this area. I hope we are wrong Jackie, but I have a sick feeling that this pinkie is in harms way.

Yes, I have the same bad feeling. Pneumonia will take a pinky this small within HOURS of when the clicking starts. Pinkies are extremely delicate and require delicate hands....this doesn't bode well I'm afraid.

Oh no! I read this and saw everyone volunteering to take him and thought he had made it to a rehabber. I just came on to see an update, this wasn't what I was expecting :sad. Pinkies are very fragile, but I have had them survive the clicking several times. If the finder is still trying to feed the baby though and continues aspirating the poor little tyke though, then I am afraid he won't last long. I hope you guys here something soon. :grouphug
