So my jackass cat brought me another bird - no idea what it is though, maybe a woodpecker? It's clearly a fledgling, as it can get airborne for a bit but can't "fly", and it doesn't appear to have all it's adult plumage. So I was going to put it back out and keep an eye on it, but when I got close to it I saw a big swelling around it's right eye, and it's eye has gone red.

There are no wildlife vets or rehabbers anywhere near me - I've checked.

Well, unfortunately I can't give you any advice. The bird does look like a hairy woodpecker. Someone should be here soon with advice. Do you have a small box (and maybe a couple t-shirts or soft cloth) that you could place the bird in? I think a dark quiet place would help limit stress if possible.

Start with some terramycin ointment, an avian vet should be able to help you more thoroughly though.

As stated in my first post, there are no wildlife vets or rehabbers in my area. I've already had several small animals in my care and I have looked around for rehabbers - there aren't any. But if you want to check again I'm in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
The bird was moved to my small bird cage - he was only out for the pictures. He's got a bit of nestling food in there as well. I believe the damage to his eye is from a fall and not from my cat, as there are no puncture wounds anywhere on him. I've also consulted my mother the doctor and she told me that he's probably bleeding outside the skull but under the scalp and into his eye socket, which is what's causing the swelling and making his eye turn red. She said if there's no pressure on his brain then the body wil reabsorb the blood and the swelling will go away.
So I've been keeping an eye on him and watching for signs of intercranial pressure, but he's full of life and acting completely normal. He was fluttering around the bathroom when I took him in for pictures and he's been hopping around in his cage all morning.

It looks like it may be conjuctivitis...we had birds in our yard with it every year...they were house wrens and the parents kept passing it to the babies and that is what their eyes looked like...it would start with one eye and then go to the other...and yes that looks like a woodpecker...I am not a bird rehabber but I agree...the baby needs to see a vet...

Unfortunately none of those rehabbers are very close to me - I might be able to take him to Waterloo but it's a 2-hour drive and I expect they're closed on weekends.
The swelling around his eye has gone down - I'm pretty sure it was bleeding caused by a fall, not pink eye. There was no pus or other signs of infection, just a dry swelling around the eye area and the eye was red around the edges - characteristic of bleeding into the eye. So the swelling has gone down and his eye is starting to look a bit more normal, I can see black around the edges. I think I'm going to keep him under observation for a few days and see how much the eye will improve. He's acting completely normal, trying to fly and hopping around his cage.
I just fed him about 2cc of the "baby bird food" I was instructed to make last time when I had the robin and he seemed alert and hungry - I have to hold him vertically when I feed him or he won't eat, cause of course he's used to hanging off the side of a tree and picking bugs out. Right now I'm just dripping the food onto his beak and letting him lick it off - is there any way to do this any easier? I'm worried he won't get enough food in this way.
I've also just noticed when feeding that his right leg seems to be broken, which would be from the fall that injured his head. Is there anything I can do about that, or should I just leave it? How long should I keep him inside for it to heal?
Also, he seems to be sleeping a fair bit during the day. Is that normal for woodpeckers or does that suggest that something's wrong?
