Does anyone know of foods that are good for squirrels and that have a calming effect?

My Cassi is starting to show signs of aggression, particularily when she has a piece of food in her mouth (making a growling sound and lunging at my hand). BTW, I have never taken a piece of food from her, so that behavior is something she has come up with on her own.

Also, on the dietary side, she seems to have fragile whiskers. They have all broken off at about 1/4 to 1/2 inch from her face. Is this possibly a dietary lack of something?

Thanks all

I don't know about the whiskers, but just about every squirrel I've had, including my four non-releasables (except one), get very paranoind and possessive about food when they're munching on it. My most docile squirrel will smack at me with its paws and growl a bit if I get too close while it's munching on a nut.

I feel the same when someone is looking at my dessert. :D

Seriously, most squirrels, when eating, are VERY serious about it. No getting close! I do hope someone can weigh in for you about the whiskers...

What, specifically, is your little one's diet?

Cassi's diet is in transition now, as she has started to wean off formula. She'll take a couple of ccs in the am and more at night. Otherwise, she is a finicky eater. So far, what I have found that she likes well are avocado and grapes. She nibbles at some other foods, but unsure exactly how much she eats and how much is just chewed up and left as crumbs. She nibbles at radish, cabbage, carrot (small amounts), etc. She does eat the blocks I made recently for her, but not very interested in them. I will give her the occasional pecan piece as a treat.

I also discovered that she is crazy about Wheat Thins after she tried to steal one from my mouth. Thinking about getting her some that are low sodium.

Thanks

you can try offering Lemon balm it is a green herb.

is considered a "calming" herb....used to reduce stress and anxiety, promote sleep, improve appetite, and ease pain and discomfort associated with digestion (including flatulence and bloating as well as colic)

We grow it in our garden. :tilt
