little grizzly seems to have a eye problem.

Only on one side, it is a little watery and the area below the eye (not the ey itself, the skin, eye lid?) is a little swollen and like a purple color.

Wondering what needs to be done, just cleaned out his cage and put some new fuzzy bedding in there for him to snuggle in.

Any ointment i can use?

are you looking for something over the counter or from vet/
i would suggest erthromycin optic sauve{ PRESCRIPTION} for sq eye irritation from scratch or wee infection. otherwise, if more serious eye problem develpoes...you will need to be seen by vet!
i am not a rehabber, so maybe a rehabber can give more info.
good luck:thumbsup

My advise is ...if you can visit vet, that is best. Eye issues are serious and messing around without REALLy knowing can create more damage.
But the med I mentioned is sq safe and a general suave ...google it.:thumbsup

Does it look like the lower eyelid is rolling in toward the eye? If it does, then you definitely need to get to a vet. Those hairs rubbing against the eye can cause deep corneal abrasions. You don't want TumTum to go through what Christine did. http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15519

If you think there is just something in there, irritating his eye, you can use Saline solution to rinse it & see if that helps.

perhaps you can try some Euphrasia homeopathy 30C potency. WOuld not harm the baby at all

Okay sorry for the long wait here are the pictures.

No vet here is safe where i live, but there is a rehabber that is squirrel friendly and takes babies if this is serious.

It does look like the lower lid is swollen, but, thankfully not the eye.
Is there any kind of discharge from his eye? In my opinion, I'd at least call your rehabber friend to get an opinion, maybe see if she could take a look at him personally.

When this baby was found, were there flies around it? If so, have your rehabber friend check under the babies lid for maggots. I had two babies come in last year with them. If you see anything in light yellow when the lid is pulled gently away from the eye, they will have to be removed with a pair of sterilized tweezers. It's a tedious job and needs to be done as carefully as possible. Then the baby should be given topical Revolution in an appropriate amount for its age and weight and be given Sulfatrim, .15 (approximately considering age and size) twice a day for 5 days in case the tissue has been damaged.

You can also use sterile eye wash solution or sterile contact lens solution to flush the eye - maggots or not. This may aid in reducing the irritation to the eye.
