Friend of mine in Bellview area has a fledgling bird was cat-caught, appears uninjured, but she can't get it back in a tree because it is a huge oak! all the trees are in fact. Barn cats are stalking around waiting...
Is there anyone near Ocala/bellview that can help her? thanks...
trying FWC right now.
I know it may need round of anibiotics cuz of the cat!

She doesn't have anitbiotics and we are waiting for FWC to get back to her. In past experience, they never got back to her at all or days later if they did.
What kind of anibiotics are good for pasturella bacteria and safe for baby birds? What dose and how to give it?
I can mail her clavamox, amoxi, penicillin, keflex, macrobid (really just for uti though) but it will take too long i think.
For that matter, what to even feed the bugger? Blackberries? Mealworms? I have used those in the past but was always able to get the parents to come back to my makeshift nest eventually.
Waiting...waiting....

This info was posted previously -- maybe she can help you (sorry I don't have a number):
Dr. Cotrell at West End Animal Hospital,
just north of Gainesville. She is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator as well
Also, MsOakley is in Gainesville -- you can send her a PM -- if she can't help with birds, maybe she can refer you to someone.
My birdbook says mockingbirds have a varied diet -- berries, grasshoppers, spiders, snails and earthworms. (:thinking doesn't sound so "varied" to me -- blackberries and mealworms sound about right :D )

Dr. Cottrell takes everything BUT birds, but she is an awesome bat lady! I love her her dearly.
I DO have a bird vet near me,but its too far from her.
Just so you know for future reference, its Clvin LeClear at Trenton Animal Hospital 352-472-4200 he has taken everything in from me before and saved what I thought to be "lost causes."
However, Leslie Straub from FWC will be calling her as we speak to help her help the bird. She reccomends placing it far away from the barn cats for the parents. Obviously, we aren't starting antibiotics. I have mixed feelings on that, but...Thanks for the help!!

Thanks for the info -- I will add that to my list. :thumbsup
My birdbook (just a basic field guide) also says they feed and nest close to the ground, in thickets, trees or shrubby vegetation, if that helps at all with the placement. Hopefully mom and dad will come to his rescue (the book says they vigorously defend against dogs and cats, so hopefully they will watch out for him :thinking although I guess they didn't do so well the first time:shakehead )
