Help all! i am torn. Scraps is almost a year old now and while she seems perfectly content at home, has shown zero signs of wilding up or wanting to leave, i do that is what will be best for her. i have someone who is willing to take her and wild her up and release her in the woods. my problem is that i am so attached to her that i dont want to let her go! The thought of not seeing her everyday is killing me. What should i do? If she didnt seem so content now it probablly wouldnt be so hard. am i just being totally selfish with wanting to keep her?
Thanks

When she is not happy with you then I would think about rehab and release. Some (as I'm told) are very happy to live with us people and they show it, some like the wild life and won't be happy until they have it. If she loves you and you her, stay together, it is not wrong to keep her if she is happy with you. This is the way we feel about our two, so your not alone in your thinking. We have had ours for 8 months, so we are still new to this and we learn each day from people on the Board.

Scrapsmommy—I am not a rehabber, so here are my thoughts anyway. If she is content, do you have to release her? Maybe she wants to stay with you and you want to keep Scraps. Otherwise, maybe you could work with a TSB rehabber to release in your own backyard, kind of like Rocs The Island Boy (http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13601), it is truly an amazing story. Maybe before you make any decision, talk about it online some more, then think about it some more. Once you think you know what you want, then let the TSB rehabbers help you, they are beyond Great. Oh, can we have pictures of your sweet girl, Scraps? What a cute name. I guess if it were me, I would keep her, but that is just me.Wishing you all the best. Again, I am not a rehabber, and this is just my personal opinion.

I agree with Kim. If you are happy together then why change a good thing.
I`m new to the squirrl world and still learning about the cute little furries but I must say I do love my squirrel Tommy and would be heartbroken with out him. But if the day comes that he needs to be in the wild..then so be it.

I am a rehabber and I still struggle with this everyday. Some are ready and others are not. I still believe that they will tell you when and if they are ready. You will know if someday she chooses to be wild but for now she is happy, content, and safe, so be it.

Let her keep you. She is a gift to you and you to her, and if she wants to go someday, she will tell you. It's a big bad world out there, and if I were a squirrel and could get a human to take care of me, I'm not so sure I would want to give it up.:) I like to run wild too, out on camping and backpacking trips over an extended time, I hate to come back in to stuffy cramping human dwellings, but do I want to live out there? No, ma'am.

As a rehabber I deal with this every year, Somtimes when you meet these wonderful creatures I feel like it's for a reason. Maybe your little one was meant to be with you :) Some animals dont do as well back in the wild as others (although we all hope for the best) and just maybe your baby crossed your path bc he or she is suppose to stay at home content with the life of a house squirrel with his or her loving mommie :Love_Icon
