I have a female gray squirrel that I have had since September 2007. She is doing great but I noticed that her bottom appears swollen, not red. She is acting normal so I am wondering if she is in heat or if she has another problem. I have not noticed this problem previously. She won't stay still long enough for pictures. Any advice appreciated.

A picture says a 1000 words. It is hard to tell without one for sure. Has her disposition changed at all? Is she eating well? Sorry for all the questions.

She is a little more cranky than usual. She is chewing on her cage more than usual. But she is eating well and playing when I get her out of her cage for play time. I make sure she has the UV light and calcium as well as a balanced diet. I can't get her still long enough to get a picture, I will keep trying.

Oh, I am sorry to hear about Charley Anne...I am Not a rehabber...just found your thread.

I believe AEMJ is correct...can you post pictures (do you need help posting pictures?) Can you tell the rehabbers about her diet?
Wish you all the best,

When they go into estrus, the vulva becomes pink and swollen, like a little pink cushion. Sometimes you also notice a musky smell. And they definitely get more moody or irritable. It shouldn't last more than a few days.

The post from 4SKWERLZ sounds exactly like what is going on with Charley Anne. As for her diet she get's 2 to 4 of Henry's Blocks daily, lots of different green leafy veggies, apples, oranges, some banana, avacoda, squash, cucumber, mushrooms, bell peppers, grapes. radishes, sugar snap peas, carrots. I vary the fruits & vegetables and make sure I do not over feed. She gets wood chews, limited nuts in the shell, small branches to chew. I try to follow the suggested diet and make sure she has the proper lighting and calcium to keep her healthy. She has stuffed animals to play with and gets play time so she gets her exercise. She is spoiled rotten. I really appreciate all of your help.:thankyou
