this new little girl makes all kinds of noise including this sound that i guess is kind of a clicking. i held her little back and tummy up to my ear and i can hear it...but it actually sounds louder at her little nose and face - so i'm assuming it's coming from there. which one is bad and which one is normal? i have not seen anything come out of her nose and i have watched it like a hawk. i just listened to her again and i don't hear it at all....is the bad clicking something that would be constant. also had another question....i have heard everyone talk about antibiotics and remember one of them for aspiration is baytril. in the event something does happen (hoping it doesn't obviously) is that the same thing i can get from petmeds.com? they have taste tablets that you can buy as well as ear drops for dogs....so just wanted to clarify what it would be that i'd need. i'd like to have some on hand if possible but as most of you know, i'm in a non squirrel friendly state. thanks!

no :dono
Clicking is never a good sound. Either she has aspirated into her nose or her lungs. If in her lungs pneumonia will develop and she will need an antibiotic to save her life. Baytril is one that is used (22.7 mg.) Baytril has a very nasty taste and can be hard to dose. Septra/smz is another medicine that can be used. If you get either one of these you will need help from the board on dosing, both on amounts and times.
Feed the squirrel very slowly with a needless syringe. Clicking in the nose or throat means that formula has been allowed to back up from feeding too fast.
If it hasn't gone into the lungs you are lucky for now and may have just missed pneumonia.
The board has members in Va, who possibly help you out with diagnoses and care.

she's not making it anymore.....she was just doing it while she was sniffing/sucking/nosing around.

that's not what i'm hearing then. i have watched her every time to make sure nothing got in her nose or came out of her nose. if she starts moving around and gets it all over her nose....we stop and clean up and then start over. i would still like to know if the baytril on petmeds.com is ok though....for those just in case situations to have on hand. thanks so much. i just went and listened to her again....the twitching i mentioned earlier seems to be when she's startled. like frick when we take a nut from her....a squirrely attack. :) i listened though and only hear her heartbeat and breathing.

is the liquid form you're talking about different than the liquid ear drop form on pet meds. i ordered some other meds without a prescription for the puppies....seems to be a hit or miss as to whether they send or not.

Yes, the liquid baytril is an injectable form. I know that they make it in pill form but I usually use the injectable which can be given orally but it taste like crap. There are some places that sell the injectable form w/out a prescription but it is in a much higher concentration and it is very expensive. It is the large animal injectable baytril.
Oh dear. I hope you can get her to a vet. It is a shame that you are in a non -friendly squirrel state. Clicking sound is never a good sign in my experience but I do hope I am wrong and she makes. Sounds like some pneumonia and the baby or adult can deteriote very quickly. The sooner you can get it to a vet the better chance the baby has but I do hope she makes it. God bless

she is not clicking now....it seems i jumped the gun and she was just making squirrely noises. i had just fed her so she must have been gurgling and sucking and all that combined. she seems to be doing well. i found a scale today and will weigh her at her next feeding. what is the rule then after i get the weight?
thank god for that : ) God bless both of you
Thank goodness the clicking is gone! The rule is 5 percent of her weight for feeding- Good luck! So glad she's just being a squirrel~

last night she weighed 140 grams....tonight 148. so we had been feeding her 7cc/ml every 4 hours today. do we continue to do this about every 4 hours?
What a little piggy:D If she's not having problems, I see no problem with 7cc.
