Subject: two baby squirrels found! Can't find rehab
I have tried to contact several rehab people in Illinois with no luck. I
can't seem to find any in my area. I live in a small town in central
Illinois,
Athens. It is about 12 miles north of Springfield, IL. I live in Menard
county, but Springfield is in Sangamon county. My area code is 217.
The two babies were found a the bottom of a pine tree in our yard after a
snow storm last night. We actually thought one was dead, but after
bringing
them in and warming them up, they are both moving around and screaming at
times. I think they may have back injuries. They do move around, but one
moves
real jerky and the other only moves if we try to position him better.
They
have been sleeping a lot. I have been reading quite a few articles on the
care of baby squirrels and am getting confused. They don't seem to be
dehydrated, their skin goes right back down when gently pinched. I did
try to give
them a little gatorade after they warmed up but they would not take any of
it
from a syringe and I was afraid to force anything. From the pictures I
have
seen, the appear to be 4 to 5 weeks old.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have to go to work tomorrow and
can't watch them like they will need. Thanks, Jill Garry
