A while back somebody mentioned a device to grind up nuts, but I forget what it was. As I find crushing up the nuts for the blocks the biggest hassle (hammer and baggie), I'd like to invest in something that makes that part of the process easier. I can't remember the name of the device, but it seemed to have a rather sinister moniker, such as "Devil" or "Wizard" or "Demon" or something like that. I may be wrong. But it was mentioned about the same time someone suggested parchment paper to line the cookie sheets (and for that I am eternally grateful!). If you know what I'm talking about, please share, or if you have a wonderful alternative (blender/food processor isn't it), let me know that too. Many thanks. PBJ2

I use a Magic bullet and I find it does a great job for the nuts in just seconds and it pulverizes the pills to a very fine powder, no hassles or swearing! :D

I found a generic version of the Magic Bullet at Big Lots for much cheaper. Works just fine. :thumbsup

It sounds like a miracle machine, but you could always buy almond or hazelnut meal. Most health food stores and Trader Jo's (if you have one where you are) have it in the nut sections. It's much easier than either grinding or crushing! :)

Yeah, but it's cheaper to do it yourself....unfortunately. :)

PecanMan has pecan meal for $1.50 lb for anyone using it. I got mine last week & it's good stuff!! :thumbsup

I had this one but sold it:

worked great for barley when I used to make beer from scratch. We didn't use the handle, instead we attached a drill and it would grind about 10 pounds of grain and under 3 minutes!

Man they really copied it didn't they!
But I still think the extra 30 bucks is worth it for the dinner feature, and it does the dishes too, uhhh ya that's it, the dishes! ;) :innocent

I think I read where someone uses a coffee grinder......

I just use a medium size Cuisinart (or some such) when I want to grind nuts to coat my salmon (except I don't eat salmon anymore). It worked great. Just have to be careful you don't make nut butter.:osnap

I bought a coffee grinder to do the pills with, and it is working great. Then I picked up a Mini Food Processor for $3.00 at a local resale shop, and it really chops the nuts very well. So this last batch I made went fairly easy. I have ordered some Now Powdered Calcium, so that will make the pill grinding even easier - I make 4 batches at once, and that's a whole lot of calcium pills! Another thing I did differently this past time is use medium eggs instead of large, which made a big difference in how the dough held together. If it does come out too runny, I put it into a plastic bag, cut the corner off the bag, and just squeeze it out in rows. (To tell the truth, the plastic bag is a lot easier, quicker, and cleaner than shaping it by hand!)
