We have a male squirrel we raised and released. He chose to make his yard our home so we let him stay (I think he's 2 now-can't recall because I've been crazy busy.) Anyway a couple of months after his release he came back to us after having been beaten up badly in a fight. We nursed him back to health and he grew to be very strong and apparently the dominant male in our area.

I don't know if he had a fight with another squirrel or the neighbor's cat who likes to stalk squirrels, but his paw is terribly swollen. I don't know if we can get him to a vet or not. He has access to a cage in our garage which is connected to the outside via a tunnel-pipe my husband built.

Can anyone give me the name of a vet on Long Island OR can someone tell me what type of antibiotics I can put in his water if possible?

We have had him confined to the cage for a couple of days now to allow him to heal but the cage is big and I don't know if we can seal up the entry hole and get it into the car.

Thanks for your help.

Someone will be here very shortly to help you. We have lots of great rehabbers on TSB, including a couple in NYC. I know there's also an excellent vet in the area and they can give you that info. Welcome to TSB, and good luck with your squirrel.
