I have a two week old boy that is very consipated and has a small sore on his anus. I have given him yogurt, pedialyte, water, and apple juice. He has not pooped since yesterday around noon and is getting weaker by the minute! I have been feeding him about .6mL of powered esbilac formula 1:2 about every 2.5 hours. I have soaked him in warm water and tried and tried to stimulate him but he still will not go! Please help!
Thanks,
Amy

Does he appear bloated? I'd stop giving him formula for 24 hours, only Pedialye, the start introducing formula again, diluted at first, then building up to the 1 part Esbilac, 2 parts water concentration again. If he has a sore on his anus, make sure his little "hole" is not scabbed over/shut. When you stimulate, I know many use cotton balls, tissue, etc., but to keep from rubbing their little thingies raw, I use my bare finger with just a tad of petroleum jelly on the end. Check bedding carefully. He may be going on his own a little (but still needs to be stimulated).
Oh yes, if he's two weeks old, I'm guessing he weighs somewhere around 30 grams, so .6 mls of food isn't enough. He should be fed 5% of his body weight or 1.5 ccs. If he isn't bloated and pooped yesterday, it might be that he just doesn't have anything built up to poop yet.

He is very underweight...he had problems eating and swallowing from the beginning and just started putting on weight about 4 or 5 days ago so he is only about 16grams. The girl I found is already 26grams and is eating about 1.3mL. He has been eating about .8mL but hasn't eaten more than .4mL since about 6pm yesterday. He has been having problems pooping...he has large size poops (fat ones) and I have to help him. I haven't seen him go on his own any and his his little butt is puffed out.

If he's two weeks' old and only 16 grams (practically birth weight), there's definitely something going on. You need to get this guy to a rehabber or vet.

Jackis your box is full.
I am at achool. Can't get out of here till about 3:30.
I have nothing here to help little one with. Was planning to make up a box to keep in my trunk, but have not gotten to it yet. Was not expecting pinkies so soon.
Phil is high school teacher. I know she gets out before I do.
I will help if I can and baby can hold on till this afternoon.
So sorry.
Come on retirement.:osnap

Well he had another massive bowel movement, I steadily pooped him for about 20 minutes and since then he has eaten about 1mL of pedialyte...thank you so much for all your advice and help!
Glad to see the baby is better, Jackie called me this morning, but I was out with my daughter.
If you should need any help with this baby, please don't hesitate to call me. I don't work and am usually home so I can respond 24/7. I will PM you with me number, Jackie has it also.

Jackie just called me; she's busy with a painting job but wanted to know how the baby was doing. I told her the baby had pooped and was doing better.
Jackie says :thankyou to everyone for helping out in this thread. A special thank you to Lady Squirrelly and can you (or Philomycus) please keep an eye on things in case the baby gets worse? She'll clear out her mailbox when she gets home.
:thankyou :thankyou :thankyou from Jackie.

Wow! I'm off of here for 2 hours, and all this action!!! :D I'm in Jax if you need me and can help you out if you need it. Sounds like things are now under control though....keep us posted!
I just got off the phone with Amous6654's mom. Baby is doing better and being babysat while mommy is at work. Amous6654 will call me tonight, then we will decide if baby boy comes here to get stronger. Babies are about 2 weeks old. Horrible story about how they came to their new home.
More news tonight.

SASG I told her to add yogurt, I love yogurt for my sqs! I will stand by what I know!:peace I have known many sq folk that also use and will swear by. Nothing against you or yours.
I talked to amous6654 this evening, and she is going to drop the little boy off here at my house tomorrow. His name is Jethro and he is two weeks old. He is doing better all ready, thanks to all the TSB help:D :thumbsup . We'll see if we can't help his little pooper get all better and get some meat on his little bones.
Guess next time you all hear about this guy, he will be in the nursery or infirmary section. I hope it will be in the nursery:)
There will be pictures!

I also use yogurt for my squirrels, both tree squirrels and flyers. I include it in their formula, and continue offering it as long as I have them, and I haven't seen any problems from it.

I've included yogurt in formula also, and while it might not give them all the beneficial bacteria they need from the yogurt itself, it's my understanding that it helps to give them a start. The bacteria will reproduce/build up naturally in their system once it is introduced. As always, if I'm wrong here and there's confirmable evidence to the contrary, please let me know.

I've used yogurt for a couple poopy pets. it's a good balance, and I did it with research and vet approval.
lets wish this gal the best of luck, do all we can to help the squirrel and go with that. on an MB benefit of the doubt is what IS needed. sometimes.. it proves wrong.. but it's really the only choice we have in this medium.
continued good luck amous.

We are good! The boy has been pooping regularly and eating good (he is on the diluted formula). He is much more active and seems to be recovering nicely from yesterday. I will take him to Anne around lunchtime today. The little girl is doing great...eating all the time...I have decided to continue to rehab her, unless I run into problems with her...then I will turn back to Anne. Thank you all so much for all the help and support, and for finding me Anne. She is such a wonderful lady and I don't know what I would have done with out TSB!!! :thankyou
