View Full Version : Play Time Together?

I have often thought about letting NutNut ( 3 yr old female ) and Sugar ( 5 mo old male ) out to have play time together. I'm just not sure if this would be a good idea. They climb all over each others cages when they are out on their own and neither one seems to have a problem with them doing so. They will both sniff each other through the cages, no tail jerking, foot stomping, or chattering at each other. I have read that squirrels don't mature until around 10 months of age. Is this correct? If so I'm not worried about them mating. I just don't want them to hurt one another. Shug has reached a good size, although NutNut still is quite a bit bigger than he is - she's a full 24 inches when she's fully stretched out :) . Can't get a measurement on Shug - he's my super speed squirrel!
Any thoughts on this? Anyone had any experience with trying this sort of thing, and if so, what happened? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Nutkin, for what it's worth I've found that if there is no aggression in the beginning, everything will be fine. However, if there IS aggression from the beginning, don't even think about them "getting over it". Squirrels who are territorial don't get over it, they get worse, and I've ended up with eight squirrels in six different cages because of that fact. :shakehead
So if your kids don't seem to hate each other they will probably be fine, just do one thing for sure: put them together in a NEUTRAL environment, not in each other's cages.

Thanks so much IR! I think I am going to try it out tonight. Let them play in the living room - I would never even dream of putting them together in each others' cages. That's a severe invasion of territory! I wouldn't want to be the squirrel who tried to invade NutNut's house!:devil Thanks again!

Woo-Hoo!!! NutNut and Shugs did great together last night!:jump I was absolutely thrilled. They definitely aren't what you would call buddies, but no fighting, slapping, or fussing. Thanks so much IR for giving me the courage I needed to try this!:thankyou
