My mom's friend called yesterday and said "We have found a flying squirrel in our bathroom!" It was to young to be released. He called us knowing I was going to get a flying squirrel from Helens Little Critters. We are just going to rehab this baby, over winter it then release it. So far we think it is a girl not positive yet... We have a cage with lots of toys and ramps. She has found the bed I made her and is sleeping in it right now. I named her Fayth (i liked the name!) but the question is: is she going to eat? What do wild flying squirrels eat? :dono :dono :)
Thanks,
Flying Squirrel Girl
P.S We will post pix of her soon don't really know how old she is. Thx

How lucky.
She should eat whatever you would feed it if you had gotten her from Hellen.
I got mine when she was about 4 weeks old. Her eyes had just opened. She is doing great.
She takes Esbilac and eats apples, yogurt, pecans, sugar peas, pealed grapes, and 4S's squirrel blocks.

My mom's friend found it and gave it to us. She looks a little too old for esbilac, We have almonds, is that a good nut besides pecans? I'll look in on how to make 4S's squirrel blocks! thx

I am just guessing here. I am no expert. I have done grays for about 5 years, but Baby Girl is my first flier.
I only got her because someone cut down her tree.
I am learing they are a whole different ball of wax.

My flyer pup is ten weeks now and he is still on esbilac twice a day. I will cut him back to one some time in the next few weeks but he likes it and it give him calcium! They need fresh fruit and veggies everyday and some kind of nuts. You can find the larger bird seed mixes and they like that. If your not gonna give it formula then make sure it has fresh water and not deep water that she can fall into and drown. I'm no expert but this is just some of the things I have found out ( I got mine at Helen's) when I got Demetri. I hope I helped a little anyways!!

I use water bottles for mine - usually the smaller 4 oz ones. Just BE SURE to keep an eye on them and make sure that the bottles are still working - sometimes the little ball can get stuck and you may think that they have plenty of water, but they can't really get to it.

Oh! My cage has an open bottom for a litter pan. Is is ok to use some kitty litter or gravel or something so she can use the bathroom on it?
Will it hurt her an any way?:dono

Can't wait to see pics!
I use a newspaper type litter/bedding at the bottom of Penny's cage. I got it at Petsmart. I wouldn't use kitty litter.
I also use water bottles that have a little trough instead of a ball. She drinks out of them with no problems. I got them at Petsmart in the bird section.

FSG, I'll bet my paycheck you end up keeping him! :poke When I got my flyers from a downed tree I had every intention of releasing them until it came time and I couldn't do it. I kept thinking of all the dangers out there facing my flyers. Now I have 3 flyers that I love dearly and I think they love me too. :Love_Icon

Also, I have two little corner litter boxes in their cage and they use them. I just use newspaper on the cage bottom. They like to be neat and clean.
