Sammy needs to eat rodent block or squirrel blocks. These should be 80% of his diet. He can't get the nutrients he needs with veggies and fruits, even with the extra calcium you are giving him. Loss of appetite CAN be a symptom of MBD.

Be aware that since Sammy hasn't been eating rodent block, he might not like it at first. So you might have to dip them in peanut butter or use other tricks.

What kind of calcium and how much have you been giving Sammy?

About the light, people here use a full spectrum bulb. Not sure what kinds are available in Canada. We often recommend taking squirrels outside for natural light, but in Canada there won't be any UVB this time of year.

Do get the rodent block right away and let us know how that goes.

Most of our TSB members use the Ott light.

That isn't enough calcium, but if you get him eating rodent block he should get all he needs unless he already has MBD. If other symptoms show up, let us know....

I, personally, wouldn't waste your money on the store bought Rodent Blocks, as Sammy probably will not touch them. Most of the squirrels hate them. 4skwerlz has developed a recipe for them just for squirrels. They contain all the necessary nutrients a squirrel needs in a day. I give them to Baby EVERY day (about 6 total throughout the day) and she LOVES them, as most of our "babies" do. :wott I'm not sure about Canada, but in the US, the initial cost of them is about $60, but you can make SO many batches from the ingredients, that they really aren't expensive. One batch usually last about a month.

Here's the link for the Squirrel Blocks....

As far as I'm concerned, the Ott Lite is the BEST! :thumbsup

Also, check Sammy's teeth, and make sure they aren't growing too long. That will cause them not to eat, along with other major problems.

Give that PRECIOUS little boy of your BIG hugs and kisses from Baby and me! :D :grouphug :Love_Icon :grouphug
i will check it out, i bought a light, in the reptile section, uvb 5.0, how many hours a day should i leave it on ?, when i asked for rodent block, the lady gave me a bag of hamster food IMAGINE, thanks for all your help everyone
