I originally posted this in General Discussion, but thought I'd try here for more feedback. I recently had an 8x12 shed with two lofts installed, in part so the group of squirrels I feed would have some emergency shelter. I think they're living in a nearby roof, after they were evicted from another roof a couple of months ago. I put up a nest, but no takers to date. Anyhow, I'd like to have an entrance hole cut into a wall of the shed, and I know it should be about 3 inches in diameter or less, but I don't know if it should be relatively high or low in the wall. I know too low could let other small critters in, but the only other critters I know are around are skunks and cats. I think the squirrels can get on the roof of the shed from a tree that's close, though I haven't seem them do that yet, so maybe high in the wall? The outside of the shed is vinyl siding, so not sure they can climb that. Any guidance? Thank you!

The higher the better for squirrels. They do need to have something either from the roof down to the hole or from the ground up. It would be nice if they had 2 holes for easier entrance and exit. I would put a shelf below each hole and 1 post from the ground up to one hole and a post from the other hole to the roof. I'm sure someone can give you some better ideas.
