Hi Jackie.....from what I've read on the internet, wax worms are grubs and I do feed wax worms to Timothy and Dani and they both love them....In fact I just ordered 500 wax worms and froze them...:)

I don't know about squirrels, but I can tell you my dog loves to dig them up & crunch away! He's never gotten sick, but the sound is gruesome! (Where's that vomitting smilie when you need it!)

Let me know if you decide to give it a go.

I know I've talked about this on another thread and hate to :deadhorse but I'm still trying to find out if these 'wax' things are the same little rubber looking white things I dig up in the garden?? They don't move. (I swear I'm not really a stupid woman:shakehead )

Hey, digi! From the little bit I've looked at on the web, wax worms are different than the grubs in the link from Jackie. Wax worms are moth larvae. In the wild they live as nest parasites in bee colonies and eat cocoons, pollen, and shed skins of bees, and chew through beeswax, thus the name. (From Wikipedia)

The pics in the link are the ones I find my dog digging up in my yard, so I'm gonna guess that it's what you find in your garden. Check this link out & see if it helps clarify things.

Hope it helps some!

Oohhhh, umm, no.... that would not be what I'm thinking about.... I believe I must be thinking a grub is a root thingy (do we have a smilie for 'duh'?) I will try to get a pic when it warms up (ain't goin' out there now to shiver and dig up stuff!:D) Thanks, Lego, for the clarification :)

Jackie, the wax worms I have look the same as the acorn grubs only twice the size but still skinny...

The term grub...according to webster's dictionary says grubs are thick worm like larva of an insect, ie...caterpillar; maggot; moth; beetle, etc.....so it seems it is a generic name for any type of larva...which would put them all in the same family in a manner of speaking....hope this helps...

TP, what does an acorn grub look like?
The two links given so far are the exact ones I have!

I've given our baby squirrel plenty of grubs.
When I crack open his acorns, often there are little white grubs in them. The grubs looks like wax worms, which many people use for fishing.

I put them in our squirrels dish, and when I come back they're always gone, so I can only assume he eats them! :D

The ones in my yard are 1.5 inches and look like the pics in links...ugly and fat...very gooey when squished!
I do have june beetles and moths and all of the BUGS! I have alot of honey bees too!.....I will give one to SARAH. :dono She loves to eat...
They are way to big to be inside my acorns, which are a "little variety".
I haven't found any cicadas lately, but they did love them! :thumbsup
Thanks for the input!:)

Jackie...the ones inside acorns are about 1/4 - 1/2 of an inch long and are similar in color to potatoe chips......The wax worms look exactly like that but are about an inch long......

:D Great Smilies Shannon!
Well Fred has been treating all insiders and Half Way House residents to yucky worms!:yuck ...and they absolutely love them...the flyers gladly woke up and had fresh huge fat meal worms, and the greys all had grubs! OMG...Jane had two, and tore the third one up! Penny and Company had really fat ones...Martha and Ralph were the happiest I have ever seen them...Spice, being such a girl, took her time and cleaned hers first! no kidding!
Sarah had a hazelnut when Fred offered her hers! She was so upset about having a full mouth, she almost panicked...what to do??? :hyper Two goodies, omg!

They're in the fire wood! Lots of them! Gross, but oh so yummy!:toung3
No sq breath for me today!:shakehead
I kiss Rocky alot, so he did not get one!:nono sorry Rocky!:sorry

Friday night Fred gave All Sqs worms again...and the next morning early, Sarah was sick and threw up/vomited, she also had a raw chestnut, both being white like the vomit. :dono
She was lethargic and her eyes were droopy etc...I prompted her to drink and eat a hazelnut, and within an hour was almost normal. By saturday night all was history:dono
Not really sure what was going on, just wanted to share! :dono
