View Full Version : Squirrel was in a fight, can't walk

I broke up a squirrel fight this morning - the aggressor took off, leaving the other guy belly-up and unable to walk. He pulls himself around with his front legs.
He's resting in my bathroom with a warm towel, a dish of water & some raw almonds, which he's already been munching on.
If his back legs are broken, will they heal with time? I'm afraid if I call animal control, they'll just put him down. If he's paralyzed for life, that may be best but I'd like to give him the chance to recover...
Any advice would be much appreciated.

:grouphug Thank you so much for rescueing him.
Someone will be on shortly to give advise.
Can you post a pic?
That will help the rehabbers.
Is this an adult sq?

I would keep him in a dark quiet place, no pets or children.
How long have you had him?
Sometimes they are only temparoryly stunned, so please make sure he is in a safe place.
Do you have a cage?
Use only tshirts, not towels. I am not sure if you are in an illegal state, so wait for someone to come on and advise about shelters, vets etc.
Eating food and water is good:thumbsup

Thank you. I believe he is an adult, but can't be certain. He's regular-sized I guess. I'll replace the towel with a t-shirt & plan to borrow a cat carrier this afternoon. Right now he's in the bathtub & can't get out.

Bite wounds can easily paralyze the legs. Poor little guy.. Thank you for saving him!! :bowdown
Hopefully the rehabber comes through to help you with him, otherwise I am sure one of us on the NE coast will help.

Tomorrow's Saturday, so I'd be more than happy to drive him to a rehabber anywhere in MA, CT, RI or southern NH or ME...possibly further out.
Bless you for saving this sweet baby I wish you best of luck. :)

SBJ....did you get my pm last night?? I sent you my cell #. Havn't heard and don't see any updates this am. Give me a call if you still need help! We're going to be working on an opossum cage in the Chelmsford area which is only about 20 min. out of Boston. He'll get 3 rehabbers for the price of one! :rotfl
