Hello Everyone: Thanksgiving Monday started off really bad. A woman came into my yard early this morning as I was feeding my bunnies and advised me that a man down our street just shot a squirrel 3 times and that it was still alive. My hubby called the cops and we went down to the scene. I picked up the little fella- got him wrapped in a towel. He was shot twice for sure- one in the side, stomach area and then right in the side of the head. He was alive for 15 min- gasping for every breath. It was very sad. Four cruisers came and they took his gun and possibly getting charged with cruelty to animals. I banged on this store with the squirrel in my arms. I didn't have anything pleasant to say thats for sure- I was irate and disturbed along with the 2 little girls that witnessed the whole thing. Everyone lined the end of their driveways with coffee in hand staring at what was going down. His gun was a very expensive high powered bb gun with gauges on it/sights. This squirrel was just sitting in a tree in his front yard. He said that he had problems with them getting in and I replied that his house should be maintained properly to avoid this and that I live a few doors down and in 13 years I have never had any problems because I do not have any gaping holes! Just another cruel person in this world! They are everywhere! No wonder I have so many animal friends, they by fare have more common sense than most of the people that I have come to know over the years! At least, we got a gun off our street and now everyone knows what kind of person he is! Rest in peace little fella!

Thats what we can expect from ignorant jerks! He spent more on the gun than he would have to have bought some hardware cloth to secure his home. Well at least he lost his weapon and a BIG hug and kudos to you for not letting it go without a sound. We can't change the whole world but you did a good thing there in your little corner of it!:thumbsup

I hope he gets charged, and the judge follows through. This should get as much public attention as it possibly can; newspapers, local tv stations, everything.

What a horrible story......but I want to acknowledge the Canadian local police who actually TOOK ACTION against this idiot for his act of mindless cruelty. :bowdown
I'm sorry to say that, had this happened in the states, there would have been no penalty whatsoever and the cops would have probably laughed.......:soapbox

And what about the little girls getting hit if only by ricochet! He should be charged with reckless endangerment! RIP little one.

I'm so sorry. I think the parents of the little girls should follow up to make sure this b_s_t_d doesn't do anything like this again! He should be sentenced to work at a rehab center so he can learn the value of life.

This is terrible, I am so glad the police came. It's horrible that people like that even exist. Poor little squirrel :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon :Love_Icon

You make a very good point JLM27, That happens way more than people realize. Thats why most places have ordinances about guns being fired within city limits. It actually happened here not too long ago. A man was shooting at a dog from his riding mower and it ricocheted killing himself instead. Sad that people can't use their supposedly human brains for other solutions.

The cruelty of some people still amaze me...:shakehead I'd like to see him stripped naked, staked down on the ground with honey poured on him, then release fire ants....:soapbox

can you do anything to make sure attention is given to this matter....newspapers, tv, whatever......

are you guys able to press charges yourself since you live in the neighborhood and it was fired so close to your dwellings?

I am still in a daze from yesterday. I'm doing my regular chores etc around the house but my mind is elsewhere! I woud like to do many things to annoy him but I don't want to start a war! His wife left him not long ago. She took the 2 babies with her, he ignored her thru both pregnancies and she couldn't take it anymore. I don't have to know their situation as I can read him like a book. Anyone who is a sadist and ignores his wife while pregnant is not a happy, content, nice, caring, compassionate, or kind person! He is also a teacher with an obvoius gang type mentality, if it bothers you-just kill it. Imagine what kind of message he might be teaching children? Its a shame that I have to spend my life walking amongst people like him. Bad outweighs good in this world, but good will prevail in the end! Being a nice, caring person takes some strength and especially a person like me who gets so much enjoyment from the little things in life. Other people don't like people like me or you's as we are kind souls trying to make a positive change in this world. I may be different than my neighbors but my heart is big and I'm proud to be an animal rescuer and I am truly happy. I hope that man has a miserable life and walks with his head held low in my neighborhood ashamed of his actions. He carries a hard/empty heart which will bring him nothing but bad luck and despair! I will continue to be the person I am and continue to fight for whats right and I will always look out and protect all animals and will stick up for them and BE THEIR VOICE ALWAYS!!

..... Bad outweighs good in this world, but good will prevail in the end!......

I do not believe that bad outweighs good in this world. It gets more notice and stirs up more talk and action, but all the good is there, working quietly in the background. If the good wasn't there, the bad wouldn't get so much notice, because it would be the norm. So don't give up on the people in this world - as you know, good doesn't have to go around 'tooting it's own horn' - it speaks for itself in the works that it does.

.....I hope that man has a miserable life and walks with his head held low in my neighborhood ashamed of his actions. He carries a hard/empty heart which will bring him nothing but bad luck and despair!

From what you say, the man already has a miserable life. A hard and empty heart is a very heavy burden to bear, and he pays everyday for his actions. Some people eventually realize what they are doing, and take steps to remedy the situation, but so many more don't, and die the way they lived - alone and miserable. Life must be very hard for those that never see the sunshine and feel the warmth.
