Benadryl safe?

Does anyone know if Benadryl is safe to use monthly and if it causes drowsiness or reverse reactions in squirrels? I contacted someone about sedatives for Millie until I hear back from the vet, and they suggested Benadryl might be ok...

Children's liquid Benedryl was recommended for a squirrel that had been stung by a wasp. Not adult Benedryl because it contains alcohol. The squirrel in question was not dosed so we didn't find out in that case what the effect would have been.

I use childrens Benadryl for my animals. It is based on the weight of the critter, so you would need an accurate weight. For instance I give 0.04ml to a 4 pound bunny and so on. Someone else here may have a different view or call the vet and ask them.

My book says it can be used as a mild sedative and to use the pediatric oral suspension.
