Hi, I have a 10 week old baby girl that I have had since she was 6 weeks old. She's in great health, but she stinks! I have rehabbed two male squirrels and never had this problem with them. It's like she has no hygiene. She will pee and then sleep in it. She never seems to groom herself either. I don't get it. I know squirrels have a bit of an odor, but she has a weird odor. Do female squirrels tend to smell different? Do I just have a smelly girl? I'm telling you my house is starting to smell funky. I change her blankets in her cage everyday. I just don't know what to do with her.
Also while I'm here, at 10 weeks how many times should she be getting formula, I've forgotten. She is currently getting formula 3 times a day, and getting rodent block, broccoli, carrots, kale, and cheerios.

Hi I'm from Georgia too! Chester had a stench to him only one time since I've had him, it was when I ran out of formula and bought some hartz from Walmart. It was awful and it was his skin and not his urine. Of course at the time I just thought it was the way he was going to smell and the time had arrived. He had diarreah (aw shucks I know thats spelled wrong) on it too but as quickly as I got his regular formula he got better and I noticed the awful smell he had was gone from his skin. There was something in that stuff that I feel caused it, which may not be your babies reason. Maybe someone will come along shortly who knows whats wrong. I know that doesn't sound normal tho because Chester never has baths and he smells great unless I'm just used to him lol.

LilPaige, it sounds to me as if your squirrel has a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), which does happen. The only way to cure it is to get a good antibiotic from a vet: Baytril or SMZ-TMP are recommended for this problem.

I don't think it's a UTI. She has smelled like this since I got her and she has no other symptoms of UTI other than the fact that she stinks. I've had her for 4 weeks. Wouldn't she have some other symptoms by now if it was a UTI? I am a person who has chronic UTI's and maybe I'm wrong in comparing myself to a squirrel, but wouldn't she be terribly ill if she had a UTI for 4 weeks? I know I would. It's not possible that she's just smelly? She acts perfectly fine and healthy. Eats well jumps around her cage, ect.
