Okay, my babies, boy and girl, are now approximately 9-10 weeks old and as of day before yesterday are completely off their formula. I will be wintering them over until spring. I have been allowing them for extended periods of time during the day run freely around the living room when I am in there to supervise. Here is my problem......when I go to try and put them back in their cage they growl at me and make mean little squirrely noises at me!!!!! Is this normal? I know they are just having fun while out playing and like any other toddler it is disappointing to have their fun come to an end. Also, do anyone elses babies while out playing act as if they have ADHD?? These two are absolutely PSYCHOTIC!!!!!!!

Sounds absolutely normal to me. They're a trip aren't they.

They act as though they have been smoking crack. Right now I am trying to type on the computer and they are running all over me, jumping on my head, running down my pants legs, etc. So other peoples babies get upset about being put in their cages too?

lizharrell1, it's gonna get harder and harder to get them back in their cages after 'runaround time'. Eventually, you won't be able to get them in and you'll be 45 mins late for some appointment in the evening and you'll grab one and -- OUCH!! It's how most people get bitten by their little fuzzbutts -- trying to put them back in the cage. Sooooo.....what I would do is always let them out about 1-2 hrs before sundown. Squirrels will always go back to their nest when it gets dark, so worse comes to worse you can wait until the room is completely dark (leave lights off!) and you'll see your little demons go slinking back into their beds. Trust me.....been there, done that, got the T-shirt....:D

I can usually get her with a pecan they settle down with time lots of time and lots of handelling :shakehead and yes bites. As they get older they get calmer. My older steveo 11 yrs is real easy when its time i just put my hand out and he jumps on , most of the time he just wants to be loved on .

I just noticed that you are in Fla. Unless you really want to you may not need to overwinter babies? And to boot they are 9-10 weeks old..just a thought.
Sounds like they are having a good old time.:crazy

I wasn't sure about that one. I was on here last week and was told I should probably keep them during the winter. There is a rehabber near where I live that has volunteered to take them and release them on her property. I can't release them at my house because I have outdoor cats that look thru the windows like I am fattening up a couple of entrees for them. At what age can they safely be released? Florida typically has really mild winters.

They can be released at 14 weeks depending on the squirrel and it sounds like they are fine and full of it. That is after they have spent atleast a week outdoor in a pre-release cage. (on her property) Again its up to you...I am sure she can release into November? You are right not to release at your home.:thumbsup
