We found a baby squirrel 4 days ago screaming and crawling accross our yard/acreage.
So anyway, I know how to do everything to raise him, this will be our 3rd squirrel and my 1000th baby animal to raise.
I have fresh goat milk, and that feeds anything excellently, the problem is that yesterday we came home from church and he was secure in his cage but his right eye was white and half-shut.

There is nothing in the cage to hurt him, so I guess he scratched it?

I put antibiotic ointment on it, then later vit. E
Today I put 1 drop of LA200 [oxcytetracycline]--broad-spectrum antibiotic in his eye.

Anything else I should do?
It's not weeping, but is whiter today than yesterday.

He is a fully-furred baby, tail starting to bush, just starting to nibble on food-stuffs, he sucks down about 7-8cc's of milk at a time, about 4-5 times a day.

:Welcome

Are you able to post any pictures of his eye? That will help our rehabbers assist you. If not ... when you say his eye is white, do you mean the OUTside? Like a crust? Or do you mean there is a white area in what should be black?

The antibiotic ointments and drops --- they are for use in eyes? (sorry for questioning that, just wanting to make sure :) )

Sorry for the confusion, the entire cornea of the eye is white.
Nothing around the outer rim, or fur, and no weeping.

I can wipe away some mucous if I really work at it, but nothing is just coming out on it's own --- you know?

When I first saw it yesterday afternoon, I thought there was a little rip or tear on the eyelid rim but apparently not, because it is just perfect today. [the rim]

Yes, the medicine is eye-safe & approved.

It sounds like a corneal ulceration and it will get bigger w/out intervention. Do not put anything other than the antibiotic eye ointment in the eye, especially anything that contains a steroid (hydrocortisone). It'll make the ulcer bigger. You will need to apply the med several times a day until it clears. I have a baby right now that is going throught the same thing and I apply the ointment about 3-4 times a day.

Ok, that's what I was going to do, my question then is what caused it?

It wasn't that way then a few hours later, bam! There it is.
