I have two squirrels (5 weeks) from the same litter. I've had them only a couple of days, but one had unusual looking bright green stool. They both nibble on solid foods, so I thought maybe this one had been given something to eat with green food coloring in it--such as gerbil/hamster food. However, the poop is remaining green, and now its littermate is developing green poop. I've done fecal floats but found nothing that looked like parasites. Any ideas on what might be causing this? Their diet is primarily formula with some fruits, veggies, nuts. I have two others in with them who have normal colored feces. Their only other symptom is rather thin hair. thanks--jack

PS: When I say bright green, I mean it's really, really green, like the standard green in a small box of crayons--not natural looking at all.
YOu are looking for a protozian. They are difficult to find in a fecal as they are easily destroyed in the prep of the slide. Panicur is one posible treatment.

No blueberries, and I checked and checked for coccidia. Their stool color has changed as of this morning, from almost a kelly green to an army green. Maybe they're getting whatever it was through their system.

If they were given grape pedialite it too can make their stools green for a couple of days.
