O.K, I unfortunately mentionned to a girl at Pet Value about our squirrel. She was bold in telling me that it is illegal to keep a squirrel and to hand it over to the OSPCA. She said they would put him with other squirrels to socialize then release. Great, but I told her he's having trouble with his back legs. She said they would take x-rays but if he is paralysed he wouldn't make it in the wild. So euthanize him probably then. :-( She was bold about the Esbilac and that it wasn't meant for them. She mentionned rabies and parasites....? I had a rat once and never worried about it. But it was domestic.

Anyway, I left and went to another pet store. I bought some. Kept my mouth shut this time. There's no way I'm giving him up if he risks being euthanised. I really hope for a full recovery and for him to be released back on our property!! If he can't, then we will consider keeping him unless I can be a hundred percent sure he can go to a great home!!

As for now, he lifts his bottom using his back legs to support. We did see slight movement in one of his legs as well.

I hope I'm doing the right thing!

Oh! He loves the Esbilac of course! :thumbsup

I agree that if this baby is special needs, he will probably be overlooked at a wildlife center. All the centers are jam packed with babies now and if one comes in that may not be OK, even centers that would typically wait and see are euthanizing the babies. So, I say he is better with you if you can provide him with all the care he needs. If he does regain use of his back legs and seems to be releaseable though, he would be better off if he had other squirrely buddies.

The girl claimed to have worked at that wildlife center for about 3yrs.

So, what do I do in regards to a release, if all goes well? Lets say I keep him till he's old enough to be released that would bring us to around November.

I'm worried about bringing him to a wild. center. He would go totally healthy...would I be charged? Confused abit about the whole process. Sorry guys.

He's full of piss and vinegar. How do you guys keep up with them? :crazy

I found my full spectrum lighting @ Bureau En Gros/Staples in Canada.

It's not OTT but it had 6400K and over 90 CI.

Bah! So, little girly read her text book and knows something. Book smart people without common sense are a waste of intelligence. I've talked to many a state and federal wildlife handlers this last few weeks who basically don't give a flying fart in church. If we manage to save an animal with a little care and time, then we saved them a waste of a day and man hours. They have better things to do like, chase down roaming pitbulls and animals terrorizing neighborhoods. This is excluding all the bad pet owners out there that have half starved animals in their care. There's far too much to do for them to really even care.

And no, they can't come knock down your door. They have to get the law involved who doesn't want to waste their time over a little squirrel. Otherwise, they can ask you all the questions they want. You just tell them, it's gone, and "goodbye".
