Hi All! I tried to post a new message, but am not real computer savvy, so I posted to this thread!
I have 3 babies that fell out of a fallen pine tree in my back yard during the hurricane. We waited to see if Mommy would come back, but after 10 hours, we never saw her.
One of the babies is bloated after I fed him. Is it okay to give Mylicon? If so, how much? Thanks!

I've had them since Saturday evening. I didn't have power then, but got in touch with a friend in Georgia whose husband is a vet. He gave me a recipe for formula and told me to give them about 3-5cc each. We figured that they were between 5-7 weeks old. They are fully furred, eyes open, tails curling, and beginnings of upper teeth. There are 2 boys and a girl. I named them Ike, Tina (cute, huh?!), and Hunker (for those of us who have to "hunker down" for a hurricane).
I have tried to find a rehabilitator to take them, but with no success. I love animals and have decided to try to take care of them myself. I have 5 cats, 2 dogs, 3 rabbits, 2 turtles, and now these darlings! We have power now so life is easier.
The formula is:
1/2 cup of Evaporated Milk
1/2 cup of distilled water
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. Karo syrup
1 tsp. corn oil
Today little Hunker obviously ate too much and now is bloated and breathing through his mouth with clicking sounds I've read about. I started him on Clavamox .01 cc, that I had from one of my cats illnesses a couple of months ago. I'll give that to him every 12 hours. I'm just worried about the bloating now. I've soaked him in warm water and rubbed his little tummy, but he still looks so miserable.
Any advice would be welcome as it is already after midnight here and I cannot call anyone this late!!!
Y'all are great and this website is the best!
Hope you can help!

He just peed all over me! Is this a good sign?

And one piece of poop!

OMG! I hope they'll be okay! I feel like crying now.
I hope I can find a pet store or feed store open tomorrow. Everything around here is so affected by the hurricane, I might not have any luck.
Will the Clavamox help with the aspirational pnemonia??? Please say yes!

Tomorrow I will try to get in touch with a rehabber friend of mine that lives close to you. She should be able to take them - she will have the meds and formula they need.

Just gave him another warm soak, dried him really good, put him on their heating pad in their nest. He curled right up with his brother and sister.
I'd really like to become a rehabilitator. What do I need to do? Maybe your friend can help me with that. I've become so attached to these little ones already and would love to do this all the time. I'm just still a little uneducated.

Where are you in Southeast Texas???

In Buna - that's about 25 miles above Beaumont. I drove up to Liberty today to pick up a Houston baby grey - another Ike baby. What kind of babies do you have - greys or fox squirrels?

I know that area well! My hometown is Orange. We have very good friends in Buna! What a small world.
My babies are grey. Little Hunker is having a rough time. I hope I can nurse him back to health. I've tried sleeping, but I'm just too worried. I think I'll put him in a basket in bed with me. Poor thing.

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let y'all know that Hunker didn't make it through the night. I'm so sad. I need to find a rehabber for Ike and Tina because I don't think I'm educated enough and would hate to see them get sick.
Thanks for all of your help and concern,
Sally

Sallyg, thanks so much for being there for these sweethearts, I am so sorry Hunker did not make it.
So glad Gamma and Muffin were here to help, couldn't get much better than them. Hopefully Muffin will be able to get Ike and Tina to a rehabber.
You do sound like a perfect candidate for a rehabber, you should really look into it, you might even get with Muffin and see what the steps are to start your process.
Hope your area and life gets back to normal quickly, our prayers go out to you all :grouphug

I'm sorry the baby didn't make it. It's such a terrible sick feeling to lose one.
I haven't been able to get in touch with my friend yet. I would offer to meet you half way, but when we went to Liberty yesterday we had a flat on the way home, so are running on the little 'pretend' tire they call a spare now. We are going to have to buy a new tire, and can't do that until tomorrow. If you come down to visit relatives, bring the squirrels - I've still got some room left!:D

Thanks everyone! I found some Esbeliac today after calling around and visiting about 25 stores (NOT exaggerating!)
Ike and Tina seem to be doing well and good on the Esbeliac and are beginning to be curious and playful.
I found a rehabber somewhat close to me today. Took me about 30 minutes to get to her. She has no room for more but gave me a host of information! Hopefully, with Ike and Tina I'll gain some experience and pursue getting my permit! It's been very rewarding even with the loss of Hunker. My husband buried the little guy in a Argo cornstarch box today. I think he was even sad. Anyway, I LOVE this forum and the help and knowledge that y'all have given me! I'll be in touch and keep you posted with the progress of my other two. I'll probably have more questions....so get ready! LOL!
Muffin...don't know when I'll be visiting Buna in the near future, but when I do, I'll be sure and let you know! I'd love to meet you and all your little furry friends!
God Bless All!
Sally
