The day after ike I found an abandoned baby squirrel about 6 weeks old I think, he has full fur and his tail is covered in fur but its still short and he dosent have his top front teeth yet. I have been giving him kitten replacement formula 3 times a day he usually eats about 6 cc worth before he will push it away then fall asleep. Plan to pick up some esbilac in the morning since the kitten stuff I bought is apparently the wrong food to be giving him.
Normally he has been acting fine getting up and moving around his cage but today he started to move weird like he is favoring one side over his other and was running in a circle like he was in pain. He would calm down one I held him and fell asleep after a while in my hand. I would like to find someone in my area that could take the guy in that has more experience and te then I do sine I work an offshore job and can't always be there for him and I really don't want to see him suffer any more then he has from the storm.

First of all, where are you located? We'll try to find a rehabber in your area. Then we'll be back to give you some more information on caring for your baby.

He is in a area already inundated with babies. What a sad thing with all these babies displaced :(
I wish you luck with your little buddy! When you found him was there any sign of trauma...bloody nose or such!

Sorry you are having such horrible problems after Ike. There have been so many baby squirrels displaced from it. Rehabbers in your area are great! I know someone on this board is trying to find you some names right now! Please don't go away.

I dint see any trauma when he was found and there have been no dark spots anywhere on his underside. He seems to be fine up on all fours just a bit wobly but today he started moving only using his right side and curling towards his left sorta like when you sleep wrong and get a bad crick in the neck but on his whole side. Also forgot to mention I haven't seen him poo any, there have been some small brown smears here and there but nothing significant, he wets fine from what I have seen.

seabear, I just sent you an email. I can meet you half way tomorrow if you want to. I've got quite a few babies around that age, so he won't have to grow up alone - he'll have lots of playmates! And I release them right here at my house and keep food out for the wild squirrels year round.

That is wonderful MS. If for some reason this member cannot make it, let me know for I know of a rehabber right there in Houston, with the TWRC, that may be able to help. I will give them a call tomorrow. I hope it works out for you to pick up this baby, for it would be all the sooner it would be getting care. Best wishes, S1
