We brought the girl we took in from ST into the vet yesterday. Her teeth were pretty bad. She had marks from them on her mouth but luckily no infection. They drilled her teeth then filed. X rayed to make sure nothing was going on elsewhere which I will upload in a few.
She would only eat pecans and walnuts before so no hard foods to help keep them trim. She's been on this diet in the wild with other things I am sure. Because she came from a park people would feed them nuts. So she did eat, she is a good size squirrel and about 2-3 years old but this didn't help her situation.
I am am forced to cut out the nuts and offer only rodent block and after getting her to eat such veggies and a piece of fruit later. I am hoping her teeth stay good for a while so I don't have to take her in to often.
Now I know a squirrel won't let themselves starve to death, but do you think it will take her even longer to give in and eat the rodent blocks because of her wild and human fed diet for so long?

Also I was thinking of making the rodent block from the recipe, but the question is after cooked are they hard enough so that its a good teeth file like rodent blocks?
Thanks!!

Hang on, Gam B. is with an emergency, but should be with you shortly. I wish I could help with the radiograph, but at this angle and the skull of course being three dimensional, I can't tell much. S1

Is it like thin bread?

That should be fine then, as long as it is that soft, and this squirrel can bite some, for the back teeth do the chewing. Trying it is really only how you are going to know for sure.

I need to get her to chew hard stuff not soft. She eats soft fine but thats the problem. Maybe if I cook it longer =x
The good news is this morning she was chewing on her grapewood!!!! :wahoo
So I am very happy with the outcome of this so far. Hopefully it won't take her to long to decide to try and eat the rodent blocks.
