Do you have a Havaheart trap that you can try to trap it? You need to either get it to a vet or a rehabber that can take it to a vet.

If you think you can catch it, you can also try throwing a blanket over it to catch it, or net it, but if you miss, you may spook it off for good.

Is there anyway you can get a picture so we know what we are dealing with?
Also can you get a havaheart trap?

OK, try to catch it, and then we'll see if we can find a rehabber to help you get it treated.

As Rippie asked, try to get a picture if you have trouble catching it so we can at least see it.

Good luck, is it still on your property?
Do you want help looking for a rehabber, call your vet also see if they will look at it?
Some vets want nothing to do with wildlife. You need a plan in place so once you get the injured squirrel you can act quickly.

He probably should be seen by a vet if you can trap him.
If you think you can Sparky or I can recommend a vet.
I have issues that make it impossible to leave...but after a vet sees it, I will treat and release or return, unless non releasable. I will do what I can. I will pm my phone number to you again Skwerly! Good Luck..

Hi Skwerly,

If you can't find a rehabber to help you soon, I know of some vets in our area, which he will definitely need. Dr. Gabriel Falk is a zoological vet at Animal Medical Hospital, and has treated all of my squirrels. Dr. Eldridge there has also worked with squirrels. Also there is Avian Animal Hospital of Bardmoor. They have experience with squirrels. Tampa Bay Vetinary Service has also treated one of my squirrels. Dr. C there works with some local rehabbers.

Wishing you luck,

Sparky

Net it if you can.

One thing you can do to the HAVAHART trap is to clean it and VERY LIGHTLY lubricate the metal surfaces involved with the closing mechanism.

ALSO - you can tie a string from underneath the trap to the BOTTOM of the pressure plate - run that string under the trap to your location - then pull on it to trigger the trap door shut. The string pulls down on the pressure plate - same effect as stepping on it.

i was outside watching for him,but i could'nt see him.he is probably hiding up in the trees, but when i first saw him,he was at the feeder trying to eat.the injury looked pretty fresh.it looks like his rear leg is crushed, and the skin appears off.i will try and trap him,but i gotta go to sleep now,so i can go to work.i will have to trap him with a net,i doubt the other trap will be useful,as i feed dozens of squirrels, and will probably end up catching the wrong ones.
i contacted a vet that is near the tyrone and 38th st. intersection that will work on squirrels, but i have to net him first.i'm not sure how long he will last.
i don't think i'm gonna sleep well ,if at all.thanks for the support.
