please pardon the poor grammar and speling, I am typing from my phone. I have limited internet conection.

animilal rehab shelters busy with storm and I can't reach them
my girlfriend has worked at a rehab shelter and has a litle exp with squirrels.

1) both are drinking the emergency rehydration fluid of water/salt/sugar and urinating somewhat regularly when wiped with warm cloth on the bottom no bowel movements.

2) we fed one a little bit o pecan from the yard before being advised against, neither likes lettuce/apple/grapes

3) have not seen any aduult squirrels nearby since the storm.

these guys look to me like they are about ready t be on their own, any information on how to tell?
what can I feed them?
can I leave them by the tree in a box for a while uring the day?
can I turn them loose? ( I think they are big enough to climb, they climb all over me with ease?)

any other suggestion?

andrew

They still need care but fortunately are old enough they do not need heat.

A box with tshirts or fleece or something like that to snuggle in. An area to pee/poop with newspapers that you can swap out as needed.

Do you have electricity? Access to Petsmart or Petco? They may still need to be on formula (Esbilac puppy formula). But this might be tricky w/o electric or if the stores are not open yet. Tell us your situation and we can figure out how to help.

You can TRY to re-unite them with mom (box under a tree near where found; but watch from a distance so nothing else gets them or they don't wander away). Mom might be looking for them if the winds have died down, and she can find another nest to take them to. This would be worth a try if you can. It's best if babies are hungry -- they will cry for her.

I have a generato®so I have limited power.
goingto try petsmart

they are hydrating well, and urinating
they both nearly rowned or I wouldn't have been able to catch them
they are getting frisky.
august in houston, with no a/çi cat imagine they are cold.
I have seen a larger squirell in the yard, they keep getting out of the box and they are increasingly difficult to catch. however I doubt the cat will have much trouble ;)

staying in the box for now

Thanks for all your help, the squirrels were delivered the "The Squirrel Lady" with TWRC yesterday morning. The Momma squirrel was around and knew we had the babies. The babies wanted to take off, but it is highly unlikely that the nest survived. I believe letting the mother have them would have resulted in their death.
They were in much better condition than the other ones that were being delivered.

The auto generated email with emergency care was helpful. I think a section for prolonged care should be added for situations where rehabbers aren't available for days or possibly weeks at a time.
I also think it would be helpful to allow guests to post on the Emergency section of this website. Waiting for account authorization seems a little silly for people with emergencies..

Thanks

Andrew

I have a friend with the TWRC, and I was going have you contact, but I see you found them already. My friend is wonderful with squirrels, she releases starting at six months of age, so ones of this age would be wintered over.
