hello all. i hope someone can help me as i am completely new to this. last nite i found a baby squirrel about 8 wks old just following me on my front lawn. it looked cold and stunned so i brought it in, put in a big bird cage and it slept pretty much. this am, i put it out front so mama could find it, the baby kept calling mama but she never came. it is peeing and ure they eating a little (walnuts). i just found another same size, same spot. i figure they're siblings so i put them together. they are curled up next to each other sleeping, sometimes one wakes an peeps for mama. one looks like he may be sick--maybe congested. i bought esbilac and gatorade but they're sleeping alot in the cage in a safe spareroom. i want to make sure they survive and will release in my yard when they are older. PLEASE tell me how to properly feed and care for them!! they have fleas too! can i pick them up, can they give rabies ( i read no they can't) any advice to help these babies live wil be much appreciated! thanks so much... :)

frick and frack had fleas...i used a kitten shampoo and gave them a warm bath. they were a couple weeks younger, but not a problem. it only took one bath and there were no more. haven't come back either!!! make sure it's KITTEN though....the safest for their skin.

squirrels don't have rabies...especially that little. anything that would give them rabies would have already killed them. but even big...not a problem. at 8 weeks they shouldn't even be that tough with their teeth. they might nibble in a playful way but it won't hurt. you should have no problem picking them up...they wriggle a lot though...so be prepared for that. :)

thanks for all the great advice and for welcoming me. animal lovers are my fav kind of people :). sadly, i had to take the babies to a local wildlife shelter. One of the babies was having seizures this am and i thought it would die!!!! it was so heartbraking to see! i put a a tiny bit of honey on it's tongue like the internet advised but i thought he would still die...then, about 10 min. later it was like God answered my prayers b/c the little guy was up and about..!! :) but he still wouldn't feed for me anymore. i knew he needed more expert care than mine so we brought him and his brother to the wildlife shelter..it was SO HARD TO LEAVE THEM THERE, watching the intake person put them in a box (with a heating pad underneath)...she told me they were about 5 wks old (i was off 2-3 wks) and that they had lots of baby squirrels so they could socialize well..i left the honey and esbilac and stuff with her, she declined taking the cage. i feel in my heart i did the right thing to give those precious babies the best chance of survival (didn't I?) :Love_Icon she said they would not be euthanized unless they were so ill they suffered, and i was relieved to hear that. they will send me a card with updates and to let me know where the babies will be released when mature. and at least i got to let them scamper in the yard (they loved it!! but ran right back to me) before we took them to the shelter..so, a happy ending i would say...just one more question...willthey be able to feed this little guy with seizures better than i could? and what would u say are his chances of survival? he seemed alot better and more normal when i said goodbye :(mjs
