Hi,
I found my baby squirrel six days ago in the park. He was abandoned on the path. When I first found him, his eyes were closed and four days ago they opened. He was eating esbilac puppy milk well, peeing, pooping and climbing all over his cage and squeaking.
Now he is listless, is having trouble holding onto my shirt and not eating well. He is making a clicking noise. He is still peeing and pooping.
What should I do?

It sounds like you baby squirrel has pneumonia and needs treatment quickly. There is a great rehabber from this board in your area. Will you give the squirrel to her so she can save it.

:wave123 :Welcome Glad to have you with us, just wish it were under happier circumstances. :( If this baby is clicking, it has pneumonia. Did formula come out its nose at some point? This baby MUST get on antibiotics ASAP. Do you have any type in your home? If so, do NOT give this baby any. We will have to see if they can be given to a squirrel, and if so, how much to give it. If you don't, and have no access to a vet, we will have to find a rehabber for it quick.
yes, the baby is clicking. But I am not sure if it is a sucking sound. He does make sneezing noises. Food did get up his nose. i fed him about twenty minutes ago and he ate 3 ccs of food and is moving around more. I do have antibiotics in the house and will check now what they are.

I just checked the drugs I have in the house and they are only for a virus. I do have antibiotic eye drops. Where is the rehab person. It is pretty late.

None of those are appropriate antibiotics for a squirrel. Valtrex is an antiviral, not an antibiotic. The ear drops are for ears only. Ofloxacin is not a safe drug for squirrels, it can cause painful and dangerous crystals to form in the urine.

Let us know the exact name and strength. :thumbsup Does the baby click continuously? If it's clicking from pneumonia, it will be constant, not just once in a while. If you get formula up the nose again, turn it upside down immediately, and let it run out, and wipe it off its nose. PLEASE, though, you have to try your hardest not to let this happen again, or this baby will die. :(
I don't have antibiotics just antibiotic eye drops. He is not clicking continuously. He calms down when I rub his cheek. Could he have just been dehydrated and now is looking for milk?

He seems to be doing better. I have kept him warm and he just ate. He is moving around a lot. Perhaps he was just dehydrated. Thank you everyone for all of your advice.
Good night.

An update would be nice?
I understand he is cute and you probably want to keep him but if he does not get on antibiotics he is eventually going to die even if he is showing signs of being a less listless. Ignoring advice and thinking what you want is selfish and just going to kill him. Not saying you are but your last comment makes me think, you want to think whatever you want so that you don't have to give him up?
Please hand him over to a rehabber who can actually help him and knows what they are doing. I am sure you can volunteer for them and foster babies etc so you don't have to just give up squirrels if you like them like many of us, if you want but this squirrel needs help. Milk coming out of his nose means he aspirated. Aspiration means the fluid as gone into the lungs already and thats when it comes out the nose. The clicking you hear is an infection and will only get worse. It will NOT get better on its own.
He won't become suddenly listless from dehydration especially if you have been feeding him correctly for the past 6 days. Depending on his age he should not be in a cage but a tank or something similar with a heat source.
By the way that cute cuddly baby will not be so cute and cuddly when he gets older and rips up your arms and you can't just release him when you are sick of it or he will die.
Sorry if this response is harsh but it needs to be said.
I hope someone got your # and you are doing the right thing for the squirrel.

:) I really hope the baby is doing well. I hope you can give us an update on him, we are very concerned about the babies that members write about. If you have decided to keep him, pls update us so we can help you and guide you through any worries you may have.
If you did find a rehabber, pls let us know because we appreciate knowing that also.:)
Thank you:)
