Hey everyone, I need some help. I have a new baby girl. I've had her since Sunday and she's having poop issues. She has had one black hard stool on Monday and on Tuesday night she had a few normal colored stool. It wasn't alot at all and she has not gone poop since. She urinates constantly. She is a pee machine so I know that's going good. She doesn't seem to be bloated and I just don't know what to do. She is on liquid esbilac right now and I have been diluting it 1/1 ratio. What should I do stop the formula and go back to pedialyte until I see poop or dilute formula more or just wait it out? This little girl is somthing else. My boy fuzzers were so much easier to deal with. They just did what they were supposed to, and on the right time table too.
I forgot to mention her eyes opened Monday, so I estimate her age at 5 weeks.

:Welcome
How old is your little girl?
and how long have you had her?
:thinking I don't think you should be diluting liquid esbilac. Only the powder, unless someone here told you to do so, and usually only a short time.
Also be aware that liquid esbilac is only good 3 days in fridge.
I prefer the powder, as it is more economical. I do believe you can freeze the liquid into ice cubes and thaw as needed.
Thank you for helping your little ones! :Love_Icon
You will find alot of great info here, Welcome to TSB:thumbsup
Whoops, just saw her age, 5 weeks is so fun!

I agree with Jackie. The liquid Esbilac shouldn't be diluted. Your baby maynot be getting enough nutirents to poop everyday:dono
Five weeks is a great age:)

I bought the liquid at first because I didn't really know if she would live. The liquid is only $5 a can here and the powder is $25. So I figured I would feed her the liquid until I was sure I have her until she grew up. I have been diluting the liquid because I read on Chris' squirrel site that if you have liquid you should still dilute it at first and I have kept diluting it because I was worried about the poop issues. I guess I will try full strength and see if that helps.

Diluting the formulas is only done when first introducing baby to the formula or if the rehabbers have told you to do so due to a issue.
She needs to be on full strength or they will not get the nutrients they need for proper development.
Maybe try a warm cloth to gently rub her...sometimes it can take a minute or two when they are adjusting to the formula....at least Fallen did. Once his body adjusted to the formula it didn't take him long to go.
As for the liquid esbilac you can freeze them into cubes and thaw as needed...
The esbilac can be expensive, here is a thread on TSB where to buy it online much cheaper :D

I will give her full strength her next feeding. I raised 2 boy squirrels and never had any problems with them so this is so hard for me. They seemed so easy to take care of, and also were very laid back. This little girl is always squirming and moving and she hates to be stimulated to go potty. I do it, but it's very difficult. My boys just laid there content not this one! I have already frozen the esbilac into cubes and I will buy the powder when I'm out. I do prefer the powder, but like I said I didn't know if she woould make it and I never know when a baby will fall into my lap. If you ask me though I'm starting to think I should just assume I'm going to be raising one every fall. For the past 3 years I have raised a baby squirrel every fall. My husband thinks the mommy's figure Paige will take care of them so they just push them out LOL!
