Well, I finally got pictures of Sugar, "Shug" for short, the little blind squirrel I posted about a couple weeks ago. I've been 'lurking', but not posting. Trying to learn and decide what to do about Shug. Here are some pics:

My word. I didn't know the pictures would be so big..... Anyway Shug is doing fine, thanks to this board and all of you who have helped. I've found someone in town...a vet and a vet teck who I've been told will help me determine if he's blind...but I don't really have that question anymore. I'm pretty positive. I think he can see shadows, but nothing else. He's happy as long as he's in his cage where he knows his way around...or on my arm (I put my hand in the cage doorway and he walks out on it and around my neck and sometimes explores a little on the counter. Question: I've read all the 'food' requirements and am feeding him the Kaytee Rat & Rodent recommended along with broccoli, a little apple, celery, carrots. He almost won't eat the formula anymore. Is that ok at this age...10 weeks or so? The Squirrel block recipe says for one year and older. Can I try some on him at this age? We haven't decided what to do about him yet. Thanks, Donna

Little "Shug" sure is cute and will make a good little companion in a nice cage with loving humans:) I am sure the squirrel blocks will be great for him at 10 weeks of age since he is weaning himself. Some wean early and some you have to finally take the bottle from:D The blocks are great:thumbsup

thanks to all...expecially Grandma for fixing my really big pictures. He is a sweetie pie. I still may have to find someone to take him, especially someone maybe who already has a blind squirrel. I just can't stand the thought of him living in a cage all by himself....even if we're here for him. Making squirrel blocks for him this weekend. Thanks. Donna

I am sure if you can't keep Shug, there will be someone here who would love him. I sure would if I wasn't so far away:)

Don't worry Grandma, no one is putting this baby to sleep. How could you put a Shug to sleep? I've had blind dogs, 3-legged dogs, cats with no brain, and they all lived to be old old old. I may elicit your help in finding him a home however. We have so many pets, I'm not sure I'll be able to devote the time to him that he needs. Could you start thinking about it. I'm in love with him but want the best for him. Donna

The color isn't too good, but Shug looks good! Notice: The wrinkles in my neck appear larger than they are!!

I happened to stumble across this forum while looking up whether to get a small rabbit as a companion for my blind squirrel. My boy, Ninja, is about 9 wks old and I am trying to decided if he might be happier with a little animal companionship. Don't squirrels tend to be loners as adults? In any case I was wondering if you have decided what to do with your blind boy?:multi

I have not decided yet what to do with him. It does bother me that he will be alone. I read on this board somewhere that they like companship. d.

I have a blind squirrel along with other problems and he is 5 year old I would not put him with any rabbits both wild and domestic they will as they grow older try and kill or mame him because of his disability.

Poor Rodie has been attacked three time. and he does seen to perfer humans over other squrriels
