Thank you so very much!!!! She is eating solid food- unsalted nuts, and apples, and drinking out of a little bottle I had with water if this helps in your inquiry.

Widget76, Mars will be contacting you online shortly. She is in your area. Keep the baby warm and very quiet. Do not feed anything. We'll get you some help!

Ok I took a picture, and upon closer examanation of her poor tail it is the end of her tail to about an 1/2 inch up and her tail is exposed. She seems ok as she just urinated on me...and she was thirsty and hungry so she is eating and drinking ok. I have had squirells before but it was when i was growing up but they were not hurt like this-having their tail fur off the tip of her tail.

Deb will be closer to you than I am. She works as a vet tech and should be home early evening. If that doesn't work out I can take the baby if we can meet up.

Mean while You are doing great. Can you flush the wound with warm water and put a Neosporin on it? That will help keep the wound moist.

I am familiar with such an injury as you have described. IF it is broken way down at the end, not near the base of the tail, then likely it will be ok. We had a squirel with this kind of injury, with the bone exposed and the hair and skin just like you have described. It was not a problem for her, but we did ask our Vet about it, and he said to leave it, for it was healed and if it hadn't fallen off, it was fine. In all her 7 years she never once had a problem with it, for apparently the tissue was vital otherwise, so it never fell off. If though the break is up higher, into the very fleshy part of the tail, I would capture it immediately to be checked out by a Vet. Having one of our members check it out is a very good idea in anycase!
