I just rescued 3 baby squirrels and I have a few questions. First, I would like to know their age? Their eye's are not yet opened. This lead's me to my next question, how often and how much are they supposed to eat? Also, I have them in a fleece blanket, but they poop and pee in it and it stinks really bad... can i wash them with something? and is there a better way to keep them than in a blanket? I just want to make sure that they are cozy and warm. Also, how soon do I increase their formula and when do I begin to wean them off of it? well, I appreciate all of your help. Thank you so much!!!

heidi :Welcome :Welcome

Couple of musts

Keep them warm - most people take a heating pad set on low - cover it with a lil snuggie blanket - and have it on half the bottom of their cage - so they can crawl on or off as needed for more or less heat.

Keep them hydrated - we use Esbilac puppy replacement formula 99% of the time

They need to be fed every 2 - 3 hours when very young - usually taking the regular strength formula and diluting it a bit more with water. The feeding amounts in cc is usually their weight in grams x 5%.

So if they weigh 50 grams - 50 grams x .05 = 2.5 cc of formula at each feeding.

I would wash their blankets in hot water - you probably need a couple of sets - and give them a warm water wash cloth bath - don't want to chill them or cause a reaction to the wrong soaps.

Are we "ok" thus far?

So Ms heidi - :Welcome again and have some pleasant reading.

Come back with any more questions - we are here to help.

Be sure to feed those babies SLOWLY so they do not aspirate formula into their lungs - bad thing. Proper feeding position is with their head above their tummy at about a 45 degree angle and use a syringe (NO NEEDLE) to feed them with.

:thankyou :thankyou :thankyou for caring.
