Just the other day I noticed my two girls have bald
spots on their heads but the boy doesn't.
They're about 8 weeks old.
I started to wean them about a week ago.
I feed them milk once a day. They mostly eat
pecans, sun flower seeds and acorns.
So I wouldn't think it's a vitamin deficiency?
But I don't know what's causing this.
Could it be the way they're sleeping against one another?

:wave123 :Welcome :wave123

Hi

What milk have you been raising them on?? Cows milk has many problems and is just not a good choice. Goats milk is a step better. We always suggest Esblilac puppy formula - as it is the best match readily available to squirrel mom's own milk. Depending on what you have been feeding I fear you may be looking at a calcium defiency. Stick around some one will post a more varied diet soon and let's see if we can get your beautiful babies back on track. :)

No, I would never feed them cow milk.
I've raised squirrels before and this has never happened
so that's why I got worried.
I had been feeding them Esblilac until they were about 6 weeks old.
Now I'm feeding them Hartz milk replacement for kittens (powder).
(Tends to last longer. I was goin thru the cans of Esbilic pretty quick,
so I decided to get a powder forumla)

Should I switch back to Esbilac and up their feedings of milk?
Thanks!

Are they eating any leafy greens? I don't know if that would cause fur loss, but squirrels need veggies as well as nuts. It's entirely possible, because vitamin deficiencies generally do cause hair loss. Also, they should probably have a cuttle bone or deer antler to chew on for extra calcium. They definitely won't be getting enough from the nuts.

Here's the healthy food list (http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11323).

Hartz is a DISASTER - a number of complaints have been filed against them.

I was feeding them dried fruit too but ran out.
So the past week it's been hartz once-a-day, pecans, acorns
and seeds.

I haven't been able to find the Esbilac powdered forumla anywhere
here. I'll switch them back to Esbilac tomorrow.
So I should stop feeding them nuts until they're better?
How many times a day should I feed them Esbilac?
Thank you all for your help!

:Welcome and Hello fellow Alabamian, The babies also should not be in any kind of wood shavings. They contain oils that are very irritating to their skin.

Ok, I brought Annie to the Vet. to take a look at her back leg. She took 2 x-rays of this little peanut, and said that when she fell out of the tree, she broke her joint where the leg bone and hip bone connect. She is growing, and making her own "new joint". She said that she was too small.and young to do surgery, but she may be able to have surgery when she gets a little older.
She said that she is NOT Releasable into the wild. She will require therapy, and she will not be able to jump or run fast, BUT she DOES NOT reccomend her to be euthanized also.
I will do what ever I can for her. She is like my little infant. What IS the right thing to do now? Can I keep her as a Sanctuary Pet? What should I do?? I REALLY NEED SOME HELP ON THIS ONE!! Has anyone gone through this before??

No, I don't have a scale
but I will definitely get one tomorrow.

I keep a pillow case in with them.
I had taken it out to take the pictures.
I also had a heating pad for them until they were 6 weeks.

I will get them back on Esbilac tomorrow and nothing else
until they start to show improvement.

I just read the "healthy diet for squirrels" that you
posted. So now I'll know what to feed them and how much
after they're better.

Thank you all for your help.
I'm glad I caught this early!
I'll post pictures of them in about two weeks
Thanks again!

I am going to just tell you I PMed you as I have dealth with a squirrel with a broken leg etc. I wanted this thread to stay on getting info to JNY and keep info flowing in for her babies.

Can you start a new thread and ask this question as it is vital and others have gone through this, but being on this thread it is not only going to be overlooked but confusing as we try to help JNY babies...we'll have two questions and answers going into one thread...just to confusing if you ask me. BUT PLEASE DO start a thread as I don't want your thread to be overlooked...as you do need answers :D :thankyou
