I am making a 4 - 5 hour trip this weekend (the little ones too) and am undecided whether or not I should buy a protable heating pad for the truck.

For babies, how do we determine if they need the heating pads any longer underneath their homes?

Henry and Rhubarb are a little over 6 wks. and sleep more on the top of their blankets than below them at the office only. When they are in the house at night- our house is a little cooler than my office- then they sleep underneath the blankets. When they are making the trek from office to home, which takes anywhere from an hour to hour and 1/2, they sleep on top of their blankets on their backs, with their tummies up.

Any thoughts on this too?

At that age I offer heating at night until they themselves move off of it. You can purchase chemical hand warmers for traveling and emergencies. They work great.

Thanks Mars. I've not heard of chemical hand warmers. Where do I find them? Are they hard to use?

I have even used the ThermaCare's for the back and shoulder. They stay warm about 12 hours.

Try Walgreens if you have one near by. http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=307220&navAction=jump&navCount=1&skuid=sku367980&id=prod367979

I've also bought them a Walmart.

These are widely available -- there are many kinds but here's a start. I love them and use them all year round for traveling with rehab babies. Just make sure you ALWAYS have fresh air in the container with the babies, because the warmers soak up oxygen :nono.

You could also use a snuggle safe. That is what I use. You can get them at Chris's squirrel store. You heat them in the microwave and they stay warm for 6-8 hours. I always use mine when picking up pinkies or going on a trip with the little tykes.

Hi There:D Good luck with your babies. Even a car seat warmer that plugs into lighter put under cage would work:D

Thanks a bunch to everybody!

I just ordered the heat max pads online and they will be arriving tomorrow, thanks to my credit card. Had them delivered to my office so that I don't have to explain them to my husband. He loves the little ones, but is very cautious on how we spend our money. So thanks again.

Take care to you all! I'm sure I'll be back with more questions!

I love my SnuggleSafe! I got it when my Pippy was a baby! Last SO long and its very very safe. She loves it too. When ever shes having a rough day, or especially after this little bout' she just had (:shakehead ) I use it to calm her down for the night. She lays across that puppy and looks like shes in La-La land!! I found it at my local pet store, but they have them available online too. Was a great alternative to a heating pad, I was always scared she would eat the cord! But this SnuggleSafe has nothing for her to chew off.
