Hi, I'm Donna and new to this board. So glad I found it. We took in a baby squirrel about a week ago. He's doing fine. He appears to be about 7 or so weeks old. He's grey with a fine little bushy tail, but his eyes are red--and we're afraid he may be blind. He doesn't seem to know where he is or where we are till we touch him. I've only raised two babies before, so don't have lot's of experience. Does anyone know if the red means anything or maybe he's just too young to be 'focusing'. Thanks.

Thanks Tacat. Me too. I so want him to be able to see!
Hello There:wave123 That dosen't sound good to me. Do you have a vet for exotic animals that knows how to deal with squirrels to have him check out? For at 7 weeks old he should see well. I pray all turns out good for the baby. Bless you for taking care of him. Hope to see pics soon.:)

Awe...poor sweetie! Glad he has you to keep him safe then.
Is there a scent/perfume that he is having a allergic reaction to. Are you washing his stuff...stuffies/blankies in a scented detergent or using fabric softners/sheets. If so wash everything he is coming into contact with with non-scented detergent and don't use fabric softeners/sheets.

Donna are his eyes cmpletely red, like the eyes of an albino animal? Or are they red all around the edges like someone with bad allergies?

I had a flyer with red eyes. They were a dark ruby red, not an 'albino' red. Her coat was also a lighter color than normal - truly beautiful. Anyhow, she seems to have had no eye problems - just the color difference.
