Hi, me again! So I was just curious as to what alternate antibiotics can be used to treat pneumonia... I'm not sure if Roxy has it or not, (Sounds more like a little cold) but I have a friend willing to give me 5- 500mg cephalexin pills just to keep handy (For her dog)... I was wondering if that drug is acceptable? And if so, what dosage for a little almost 4 weeker?
Thankss :)

While some disagree - Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is an alternative - do you have access?

Here is some info:
Dosing Information
Medication should never be administered without first consulting your veterinarian.
The usual dose is 10 to 15 mg per pound (22 to 30 mg/kg) every 8 to 12 hours orally for dogs and cats.
The duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, response to the medication and the development of any adverse effects. Be certain to complete the prescription unless specifically directed by your veterinarian. Even if your pet feels better, the entire treatment plan should be completed to prevent relapse or prevent the development of resistance.
It is used in veterinary applications as a "second label" - not approved by FDA but used.

A quick lesson for me:
Keflex was my first experience in creating a rebound infection in myself while on a hiking trip in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park many years ago. A bad sore throat developed after a cold. I put myself on Keflex and it knocked it out after only two days - WOW.
So - big mistake - I stopped taking it. A day later the sore throat was back 5 times worse - dumb dumb dumb on my part. A painful lesson well learned - complete the entire regimen :wahoo
