I've included some pics so you can see what I am talking about....It looks like he got a crew cut down the middle of his back....It's still very soft just short! And the bald spot on the top of his head, although someone suggested males get that when they reach sexual maturity...Is he molting? He eats good, the same as usual...Has lots of energy and is very playful...I noticed the spot on his back maybe last week but without taking a better look I thought it was just a darker strip...well it is darker and I guess it is a strip, but I didn't realize it was shorter till tonight...
Anyone know what's going on?

My girl used to have that during molting, but she was not a flyer. It looked liked someone had mowed her hair and it stood up not laid flat too. but is was her molt patter actually instead. As for the balding on the top of the head, I am not sure about that, save he is rubbing it off somewhere. :dono

The bald spot on top of the head is something male sugar gliders have due to a scent gland there. But flyers don't.
If my memory serves me correct, Skul's Bullwinkle went through a similar thing and Ashley's(from Helen's Little Critters) little girl, Flower had fur missing on her back, however I believe she was younger than Timothy and last time I asked Ashley her fur was coming back. It hasn't happened with Secret yet. :dono

Hello
All of my flyers have had a similar molt pattern their first molt. My male is now six years old and since his first molt that was like your little guys he has molted twice a year but you cant really even tell he is doing it. If I remember correctly the first molt also takes quite a bit longer to grow back in too. Stacey
