After having my first baby squirrel and not having the slightest clue how to care for her, I decided that next time I want to be ready. This includes buying a gram scale. In my search for one I could afford, I came up with this website:

Hope that helps someone!

:goodpost:thankyou I love the one I got from Chris, but it was $89 and I'm sure that's way beyond many folks' budgets for 'squirrel stuff' :sanp3. There are some perfectly good alternatives on this site for much less.

You could also inquire at your local police station. A lot of times they have confiscated gram scales that they may be willing to donate if they are no longer needed for evidence. Maybe with enough proof that you are a rehabber, why would they trust anyone after all.....It's no guarantee, but worth a try. I managed to get one that way, but I also work for the police so they know me first hand and that I am the animal freak that takes all the wildlife calls they get! LOL!

I second the bed, bath and beyond "food" gram scale. $20 was a bargin!!! Those pocket scales will be too small as your baby gets bigger and friskier- they won't fit on it for accurracy.

When i got baby flyers, I bought one for $89 of the internet that went to 0.1 grams, because I needed more accurate measurements.

The $20 from B,B, and B is wonderful, decent size for greys, and economical!

First I've heard of a gram scale, shows how much I have to learn lol. Do you use a gram scale to monitor the wait of the squirrel, and how much should let's say a baby flyer gain every week or month, I suspect I will need to know this. :dono

I got my latest gram scale from this site:

They have a nice "compare scales" feature that helps you find the right gram scale for your needs. I found their prices and quality to be excellent.

The one I bought is from this series, which has a removable plastic "scoop" to contain what you're weighing. Accuracy to 1/10th of a gram. I'm very happy with it.
