Found one of our Baby Reds that have been brought to a nest box near our house by the corner of the garage about 15 minutes ago.

He/she very larthargic, appears very sick. Can't see any obvious wounds.

Just lying on the ground, difficulty breathing....eyes very sad..... I think he is dying.

I have him in a medium size bird flight cage on a towel and flannel sheet pieces. Heating pad under half the cage and a warm bottle in beside him and have covered him with a light cloth to keep him warm.

He is about 8 - 9 weeks old and there is no such thing as a rehab place around here nor any place to buy the formula I would perhaps need. I have found on the board the receipe for pedialyte.

Please forgive any spelling mistakes

What now?????

Oh no! Bless his/her heart. :grouphug Thank God you are there for this PRECIOUS little one. :grouphug It sounds like you're doing a GREAT job! :thumbsup Maybe the baby is very dehydrated? Do you know how to check? Pull up on the skin on his neck. See if it goes down right away, or does it takes a few seconds?

Are the gums pink, eyes clear? If he pees or poo's please let us know what they look like. Just in case, do you have any type of antibiotics at your house? If so, what kind and strength?

When hubby picked him up he did bite his finger. Luckily he had on gloves so he has a bit of strength left but Hubby didn't have a good grip and he slipped back onto the ground. Just tried to hide and lay there.

What i am getting at ...is he has teeth and I'm afraid. Sorry.

I will try to figure out what happened. Perhaps we will never know.

I will put him in a beautiful resting place and hope there is no danger around for the remaining siblings.

:thankyou for being here. I wish I would have found him sooner. :sad

:Cry :Cry :Cry Poor little squirrel. :sad If you didn't see any wounds on it, there had to have been internal injuries. No matter what you would have done, you wouldn't have been able to save it. :( You did all the right things for him. :alright.gif I'm just thankful he went in comfort, and didn't die laying on the ground all alone. :grouphug

I'm SO sorry this had to happen, and put a damper on your vacation. :grouphug

Thank you SO much for caring and trying to help this PRECIOUS little Red. :bowdown :bowdown :grouphug

So sorry. RIP little one. :Love_Icon

You did what could be done for him -- he was safe and warm and comfortable. Poor little guy. He may have had injuries you couldn't see, or he may have been dying for some unknown reason and Mom pushed him from the nest. Thank you for giving him a safe and peaceful place to be.

:thankyou everyone.

It was great to know I could come here for help if there was anything I could do for her. ( She was a she)

We have given her an very nice burial with a mommy and 2 baby squirrels in the bush close by. Seemed as if they were saying goodbye as well.
