I don't really know what I'm doing with this squirrel. I was holding him today and giving him pedialyte to lick off my finger. He raced up my arm and did a flying leap off the couch, then laid on the floor like he was dead. I picked him up and held him and he came out of it. He's been in a box for a while now, but still is a bit stunned and stressed. Is there anyone in the Ocala or Silver Springs FL area that I can take him to? I cant have a squirrel running around the house and getting lost under the couch. I'm scared he will get hurt. He has his eyes open and he was sucking and licking off my finger just fine.

:Welcome someone will be on that can help you.Thank you for helping:bowdown
How old is the squirrel, can you post picture? Please keep all other animals away as this will stress your squirrel. A dark quiet location is best... Are you near Dunellon?
Someone will be on shortly to give you more info:wave123

Jackie, looking at Mapquest, Dunellon is pretty near to Ocala/Silver Spring so the rehabber contact you just got should be close enough. If you don't feel comfortable posting the contact info, maybe GB or someone can get PeevedPet's PM function turned on if it has not been, so you can give her the number to call.
Hang in there PeevedPet, there should be help nearby. In the meantime, quiet and dim lights may help calm him down. When it gets dark, they think it's time to sleep.

He has been sleeping since my mother brought him over here. I was holding him for a while to give him his pedialyte. He fell asleep so I was keeping him warm, holding him in my lap with my hand cupped over him for warmth, then he started whining and went crazy trying to get away. I will take a pic a post it in a few minutes.

This makes me crazy! :dono What happened to this baby?
Did anyone find a rehabber for her? Is the baby alright?
No one has posted for three hours, and I'm concerned.
Please ...someone...say something.

I'm going to call tomorrow since it's so late tonight. I think it would be really neat to keep the squirrel but it's stressing me out really bad right now because he's sleeping so much, and I don't know if I or my 10 year old son could get sick from him with a disease or something. My dad found him in his dirt floored garage. He was sleeping on the ground, and my dad picked him up and my mother brought him to me to take care of. I have given him a few drops of fluid about 5 times since this evening, just so he won't dehydrate. I have offered the pedialyte on a romaine lettuce leaf and he will not eat it, but will lick the liquid off. I'll call first thing in the morning to see if I can take him somewhere.

He seems to go into convulsions after just a little while of touching him. He looks at me and then sleeps, then he just goes crazy and appears to be dead, then comes back to life. He isn't doing too well. I'm going to get some puppy milk in the morning. Is he normal or is he in real distress right now with the convulsions?

It sounds like it's had a head injury. Do you see any lumpy areas on it's head?I'm in Gainesville and volunteer for FL Wildlife Care. If you can't find someone in Ocala could you bring it here? I would take your baby. I think it really needs to be examined soon by someone experienced. Let me know if I can help.

PeevedPet, how is he doing this morning? Did you get the contact info for the Dunnellon rehabber from GammasBaby or Jackie? (We were not sure who would be able to get a Private Message or PM to you since you are a new member and may not have been totally "activated"). I think that would be the closest to you and it happened that Jackie had just spoken with her last evening about another squirrel.
Alternatively, please contact MsOakley. [MsOakley, I KNEW last night that there was SOMEone in Gainesville we could contact but for the life of me couldn't recall who; I'm SO glad you popped in!!]

Thank you, everyone for your help. The baby ended up dying around 4am after a string of seizures. He would keep "dying" and then coming back, until the very last one.

I'm so very, very sorry that he died. :grouphug RIP little boy. :Love_Icon
You did what you could to rescue him and give him another opportunity. I hope you can take comfort in knowing that he was safe and loved, and died in a caring home, rather than left out to the elements and predators. Poor baby. :Love_Icon
From your descriptions, it sounds as though he may have had a head injury or perhaps was already suffering from having been cold and alone and unfed for too long. There are times when all that can be done is keep them safe and warm and comfortable. Thank you for doing that for him and for finding TSB to try to get help. :bowdown
I know that others mentioned it, but just wanted to say again that you need not worry about getting any disease for having cared for him. [Rather, you probably have been "bitten" by the love of a baby squirrel, which somehow changes you forever .... in a good way :) ]
