tatcat - No - I would never use Hartz kitten formula - there have been many quality issues with it.
Esbilac puppy replacement - canned or powder - available at most all pet stores.

If you have a petsmart near you they have the cheapest price on esbilac. If momma doesn't come back start them on the esbilac...if you get liquid you do not have to dilute. But to keep fresh pour them into ice cube trays, freeze and then thaw as needed.
You can buy the 12 oz can of esbilac to get started from Petsmart and then they carry the 24 oz online at a really good deal. I got a 24 oz. can for 21.00 with a discount coupon, plus I spent $50.00 and got free shipping.
But do not feed infant, kitty or goat milk.....esbilac is proven! Do you have syringes w/out needles? If not get to a pharmacy and get some.
Keep babies warm while trying to runite with momma...momma wont' retrieve a cold baby.
Jen if you want you can call me you have my number....I can try and walk you through if need be!
My girlfriend fed her 2 baby squirrels infant formula before I got Fallen and knew about this board...they died within 2 weeks due to the infant formula.
Good luck in reuniting them with momma and if that fails good luck in caring for them or finding them a home :D

Momma won't retreat her babies if you or other animals are in sight. Provide them with a safe area with no people or animals around for about 2 hours. Keep them in a container with heat source and then stay away for about 2 hours. Go back to see if Momma at that time has retrieved them. If she hasn't retrieved them during that time I would keep them warm....allow a area for them to get to if they get to warm, and I would start them on pedialyte and then try tomorrow to reunite once again. If all else fails start them on the esbilac.....I would dilute it for the first few feedings working up to full strength.
I am sure a rehabber will be on here in a little bit to advise you.

According to my 1 cc syringe.....1 cc = 1 ml
Go slow, one drop at a time. Can you get a syringe tomorrow from a pharmacist?
Apple Corps

FEEDING POSITION - resting in your hand with head and upper torso higher than the belly - about a 45 degree up angle.
DO NOT force the pedialyte in them - let them slowly suck it out of the eyedropper. Start with about a 1/4 teaspoon worth - see how it goes.
Do you have them warmed??

tatcat - have you thought about returning the baby to it's nest in the wall - lock your cat up - and see if Momma comes and gets him?
You can always remove him for warmth and feedings - Momma may be around in the very early morning.

Looks like you're doing a good job! :thumbsup Remember that after every feeeding, you have to stimulate the little guy to pee and poo. :D
Could you see if there were any other babies in the nest? If you hear a lot of crying tomorrow, and it doesn't stop, then maybe something did happen to Mommy and you'll have to find the rest of the babies. If you hear no crying, then I would say Mommy is around and is taking care of the rest of them.
we havent heard anyting all nite...the hole is in the living room where my comp is....i live in a small singlewide so if there were babies i could hear them...ya i am most deff peeing and pooping him...i remember some of this from the raccoon i had...he opened his eyes 2 days after i got him...:thankyou gamma

looks as if the pedialyte is doing the trick...and no clicking :wahoo
:wave123 tatcat... do you think maybe the mama squirrel moved any other babies that may have been in there out already? Squirrels usually have more than one nest (drey) for 'just in case'.
I'm wondering if you should try to put the baby outside in the morning, in a box & maybe with some of the nest he was in & his rice buddy of course... to see if he'll cry & his mama might hear & come get him? Be sure to keep your kitty in... & maybe read a book for a couple hours while keeping an eye on the box from a distance... to make sure no other kitty or animal comes around.
Just an idea... good luck & keep us posted :grouphug

Jen squirrels start looking for food in my area from about 7 to 10 in the morning. I would get him in a secure box with the rice buddy and put him out around 8am...but the key is don't feed him for about 1.5 to 2 hours when doing this....he needs to be hungry to cry out for his momma so momma can hear him. There can't be any people or animal traffic. Put him in a secure area with no animals or birds of prey to attack him...make sure it is free of red ants also. Can you put him in the area where the nest was made so momma already has a idea of where to look? Are you able to build anything up in the inside of the wall he came from and stick him securely back in the wall...that would be a ideal location and then secure that area off. IF MOMMA DOESN"T COME BACK IN 2 HOURS YOU NEED TO RESUME FEEDINGS. Good luck with him Jen!

tatcat - was the squeaking coming from inside the wall or elsewhere? "IF" something happened to Momma might there still be babies in the wall needing rescue??

:dono I don't think so. Jackie was in PM contact all day yesterday and early evening .... up to trying to get her address so the rehabber could come (this was set up at Tatcat's request). But she got no address, and then no response at all. Jackie had not heard anything from her as of this morning. :shakehead
Hopefully the baby is still well.
Tatcat, this is a VERY YOUNG and fragile little one and really should be in the hands of someone with greater experience and greater resources. There are two or three rehabbers very near you who are ready and able to take over and make sure this little one gets all that he needs. PLEASE respond -- here or to P&B or to Jackie -- so that the arrangements can be completed.

When I spoke to Jackie this afternoon (about the time I sent you the PM), she had not heard anything from Tatcat.
Tatcat, Jackie was without Internet this afternoon -- you should PM Pork&Bean if you see this. Jackie didn't know how long she would be offline.

This is unlike Jen to not come on or phone somebody.
I hope she is okay, maybe she decided to keep the baby....I just hope she gets on to let us know her plans and to let us know she is okay.

Since there has been no further word here from Jen or Jess, I wanted to let you know that FTN heard from Jen last night -- she is OK and she is planning to keep the baby.
That's all I know.
Jen/Jess - If you are reading this .... you should plan to lose power at the very least with this storm, so please plan on what to do without electricity.
Cooling (for the formula) - Start NOW to make ice in your freezer -- ice cubes or (BETTER!!) any container you can put water in and stick in the freezer (don't close it, the ice will expand). Like a tupperware, empty water or soda bottle, margarine container, milk bottle -- anything. A large "block" of ice like that will be better than cubes. This is to keep the milk cold when the power goes out. The fridge will stay cold for a few hours if not opened except to get the BABY's stuff out -- but only a few hours, then you will need ice. Hopefully you have a cooler......
Heating (for the baby) - It will need constant warmth. If power goes out, baby MUST be kept in someone's bra for the best warmth.
Heating (for formula) - I'm at a bit of a loss here, unless you can get to someone with a generator to heat water. If not, I think the best you can do is put the formula in the syringe (or dropper) and warm it with your hands and then under your arm or against your stomach. Shake it then keep warming -- keep that up until it is as warm as the warmest part of your body. Keep baby on your stomach to feed so it doesn't get cold, since you won't have much way to warm it back up --- Baby and formula must be WARM, or baby will die.
I hope you see this. And hope that all goes well, with storm and baby.

:goodpost Tatcat, You could get some of those hand warmers and use those to warm the formula. They can also be used under the baby, they stay warm a fairly long time or even those Thermacare pads you put on you neck and back. Good Luck with the baby and storm.

Those hand warmers are wonderful - that's what I used to keep all my babies warm for the month after hurricane Rita, until we finally got power back. Also, you can get a small, inexpensive propane camp stove to use for heating formula (and people food too!). I think they still make a baby bottle warmer that plugs into the car cigarette lighter, too.
Hang in there and stay safe.
