do squirrels need salt at all in captivity?

According to my vet, yes. But my vet is a general wildlife vet and NOT a squirrel specialist.

oh thanks for responding i was gettin worried i sure do hope i get alot more responces im really confused about them having salt at all or need a little i always make sure nothin ive ever gave them is salted

thats the answer i was waiting for thanks so much i was guessing they would get enough salts out of foods naturally just like their is sugar in foods like the fruits dont want to deprive them of what they must have thanks again so much for information your great ,what would the foods be that they would get the salt from? boy do i sound stupid but i really never had to think about it

Sunshine, My squirrel has a little salt lick. Sometimes she licks it, sometimes she ignores it. But I trust her to know whether or not she needs it. I don't know how other TSB members feel about salt licks, though. But I never, ever give her any food that's been salted or has salt added.

yes i have a salt lick too never give her any salt but once in a while i would offer it to her maybe a lick hear and there shes always licking me that what really got me wandering hmmm does she need salt or is she just lovin me back or both my big concern with her now is getting her to eat these blocks and getting the vitamins she needs that are in them:thankyou
